Since Universal just released the anniversary blu in the US, is it unlikely to assume that a 4K UHD is not likely for release in the US by universal in the near future? I’m wondering if I would have to import the Italian disc or if a UHD release is likely in the US.

If the news of the Spanish UHD is legit then yeah, I'd assume that a UHD would follow in all major territories in which Universal holds the distribution rights.

This being my favorite movie of all time, I surely hope so. However, I reached out to Universal on two separate occasions this year to ask about this and was told both times that there ‘were no plans’ to release this on 4K.

Weird indeed. Maybe Tarantino finally converted to HDR and asked to do this one? It was never mentioned earlier this year when the Uni planned releases were presented. I'm still waiting for Wanted announcement..

Paramount said that about Its a Wonderful Life too. I think studios are careful about that.

I don’t know. Not sure why’d they have to keep a re-release, that’s in a niche format, secret.

Who knows. Universal isn’t shy about releasing catalogue stuff so hopefully it comes out. If not I’ll just import.

Maybe they're waiting for to time the release with the home video release of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood?

I saw my BD tonight and it looked a little filtered at times. This was shot on film, but I saw almost no grain and it looks a bit blurry at times. This could be the sign of DNR use which fits like a glove with Universal.

Also, I hope “Stoltz der Nation” is in HD this time.

In the past yes but not what they have been doing with UHD. I consider them among the best, not just from a PQ and AQ perspective but also with how much they have adopted the format.

That's what I'm thinking. Once we know the OUATIH release date, we'll probably get the announcement for IB soon after. Universal released that anniversary BD timed with the OUATIH theatrical release.

Right now it’s set for October 29.

They should redo that Tarantino box set from a few years back in 4K

Yeah, you just gotta love what they've done with Oblivion, Jurassic Park and Bourne Identity. I won't buy any Universal catalogue release until I've seen the feedback.

You’re citing three botched catalog releases out of many they’ve done, most of which look terrific. They are absolutely the exception to the rule.

I can easily give you more "exceptions to the rule" from Universal:
Jurassic Park III, Fast And Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious 6, Fast & Furious 7.
Only Lionsgate can almost compete...

My point is that I just don't trust Universal catalogue releases enough to blind-buy them. Sure they have good releases, and plenty of them, but you never know what they'll do.

Fair enough. I have confidence in their transfers at this point, but I understand your reticence.
