Anyone else tired of the chaotic camera views in movies as of late?
I'm glad someone else agrees, I hate that crap. It's useful in certain situations depending on what the storyline is and what is taking place on the screen for that sequence, but an entire movie like that makes me want to beat the director with a stick.

Calm down and read my post a little more carefully.

Cloverfield is a movie I would not make the trip to the theaters to see. It may be an OK rental, and that's a maybe.

I'm pretty surprised by everyone's response here, I haven't met a single person that knows the movie that isn't beyond hyped about it. I've been dying to see it since the very first teaser months ago.

I appreciate shakey-cam techniques and the level of immersion it brings to some films, if done properly. Children of Men was a fantastic example of how that immersion brings the movie to life.

I'm not normally childish about these things, but anyone who think Cloverfield looks that bad should be dragged out into the street and shot in the temple in front of their family.

whoa. harsh.

I know I'm going to see it. What I don't know though is how every one is making premature "reviews" and decisions to not see the movie based on a 60 second trailer

No one's actually reviewed the movie. It's more a discussion on a movie relying solely on "shakey" cam. I think in general most are saying that it's good when used effectively. I would assume that most of the negative comments here are waiting to hear about the movie by people who actually have seen it.

Is this movie going to be shown to critics I wonder?

I would go see this movie but I'm currently not giving any money to paramount or universal. I'll change this stance once they start supporting blu

If we go through the whole movie without seeing much of the monster, i'm going to be pissed. That would be the worst let down. I want to see the monster blow $*&t up. I'm kind of sick of the shaky cam also. It's fine for certain moments but when it's the whole film it just gets boring. Watch, the whole film turns out to be the guy with the cam is just dreaming at the end of the film. He wakes up with the cam still recording him drooling next to some Fugly chick after he got totally plastered. The monster in his dream represents the girl he slept with that "rocked his world."

But using it as a novelty as in cloverfield may get annoying for a full 2 hours, i agree.
I agree effective at times but 2 much is 2 much

I was listening to KROQ FM out here in LA the other morning, and callers were talking to Kevin & Bean telling them what they thought the creature would be. One guy said that it was a "squid dragon" whatever the hell that is! They asked him why and he said because the maks on the Satue of Liberty went in a upwards direction. Man, is was soooo smart !

The monsters are coming out from inside the girl because she drank the Slusho drink whose main ingredient is the eggs from the ocean floor.
