It really is Disney world domination now, everywhere you turn Disney is there. Thank god they never bought Paramount. Least I’ll have the Godfather 4Ks to look forward too, even if there will be no True Lies/Abyss
I think they have a damned cheap expecting us to buy Home Alone after this lol |

If this news is true (I'm a bit unconvinced due to the source), then there's some good news and bad news.
Good News: 1. Disney is still willing to make standard Blu-ray releases of their movies. Which is better than being stuck with DVDs and/or streaming. 2. Disney is more open to work with third parties, which has been a long time coming, they were one of the last big studios who pretty much refused to work with third parties. Bad News: Of course, no 4K releases of old live action movies Disney just lost the rights to Apocalypto, reverting back to Mel Gibson's company. |

Just give my The Rocky Horror Picture Show in 4k you bastards :
Edit: oh damn, Speed of course is now also part of Disney. Bugger, so much stuff thinking about it, this sucks on so many levels... Last edited by -shadow-; 08-08-2020 at 12:26 PM. |

Yes, they will release Home Alone on UHD, but it's a cult classic that fits their brand. Last edited by Mierzwiak; 08-08-2020 at 12:47 PM. |

Disney should never been allowed to by Fox in the first place. They haven’t gotten way to big and are controlling way too much of the entertainment business. I would like to think that this is not the way Walt would want the company to behave. But what do I know ?

"YES, IT APPEARS THAT DISNEY CURRENTLY HAS NO PLANS FOR MORE LIVE-ACTION CATALOG ON PHYSICAL 4K" Something that is true can be verified. Has anyone been able to verify this story? An unnamed source falls way short of being proof for the same reason: the secret source can not be verified. |

Sigh. I really hope this is wrong or changes. That would mean no 4K for Aliens, probably no Mary Poppins, or big Fox epics that could really benefit from the format like Last of the Mohicans, Master and Commander, and Kingdom of Heaven. All of which (aside from Poppins) obviously aren't suitable for Disney+.
But I'm sure as hell not signing up for yet another streaming service, just for the chance at a 4K stream of Fox films made for adults. I'll just stick to the Blu Rays (that I otherwise would have upgraded) -- they'll probably be of roughly comparable quality to the 4K streams. |

![]() I completely agree with you. Disney has grown too big for their own good. I feel like if it was any other company, we would be getting 4K releases of all the great catalogue titles. |

Well I'm also sure getting successful franchises like Die Hard, Kingsman, Alien, and Predator also helped sweeten the deal. Especially since there's (hopefully) going to be a new Kingsman movie this year.

They already have Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Speed ready for printing. If they don't want to do the physical, send them to Arrow I'd say. |

Why is such a surprise to any of you. The future of home entertainment isn’t the physical format. If this turns out to be true, it’s not a total shock. Physical media had its run and this is what we feared would happen. Disney+ is the future of home entertainment, and that’s a cold hard fact. Remember that this is a rumor, but more likely it’s gonna happen, and there’s little hope that Disney will continue to release anything on 4K UltraHD and Blu-ray. I’ll continue to subscribe to Disney+, because of “The Mandalorian” and that’s the ONLY reason why I have their streaming service.

Well, maybe they can sneak "Hamilton" into the exceptions list for 4K UHD release. Doubtful, but one can wish.
As for not releasing the back catalog releases for both their studio and Fox's, that just pisses me off as much as the rest of you. Not so much on Disney's end but Fox's. The opportunity to have some of the biggest and best films of the previous decade in 4K, now merely the material of wish lists. Diz-nee can go on the Teacup Ride and pound sand. The chances of seeing any more Star Wars related movies and TV series on the physical format is pretty much not gonna happen. The chances of “The Mandalorian” being released on 4K UltraHD or Blu-ray is remotely slim. I hate to say this, but it’s the future of anything Disney related. My advice would be to buy what’s left out there before they stop making it.

PS I've seen (and loved) The Mandalorian and didn't pay a penny to Disnee for it. That may make me A Bad Person but I don't give a phuck, I'm not giving them a monthly tithe just to reinforce stupid decisions like this. |
