You could do a Gofundme if you have to to gage interest like Shenmue 3 did before it got made.

Ok, so Bluray.com gave this a 4/5. Aren't these the 30th box set again?

What's wrong with the 30th Anniversary discs?

Edit: It looks like video is decent and it's 4:3 which people are happy about, but there's some issue with the audio I guess? I've never watched DBZ and was going to maybe use this as my chance to get into it, so from what I can gather I wouldn't necessarily have a problem with these? I'd still like a breakdown of what's wrong though if someone can help. Thanks!

^look close at it. Basically what they did was DNR it. They wiped it clean. Next, they added an actual fake layer of grain to it. When you look you can see the image is smeared and looks nasty. Also, despite it being in 4:3, it's actually 4:3 from the cropped 16:9. YES. They really did these things. It makes no sense and it's incredibly frustrating. I love DBZ but please do not buy these abominations. The bluray reviewer is crazy for his 4/5 rating and review.

What I recommend doing is firstly buy Level 1.1 and 1.2 (they look awesome), watch them and then either wait for a proper release or find the Dragon Box DVDs which are EXPENSIVE. These other releases are so awful I don't recommend watching them over not watching them at all. The Dragon Box ones (yellow, 7 volumes; NOT orange) are still the best way to watch the show. I know it's DVD but they're still zillions better than the other blurays. At the very least, the two level sets are fantastic.

They aren’t cropped to 4:3 from 16:9 other then the first couple of episodes they have same cropping as the dragon boxes give or take a small margin around the edge. Sometimes they have more image sometimes they have less but the difference is negligible.

They do have dnr but it’s not a monstrous amount of dnr like in the orange bricks. With sales they end up costing around 20 dollar each for a steelbook with 35 to 40 episodes each which is near 10 to 20% what the dragon boxes would cost you.

The release could have been better but subjectively it’s currently the best release available depending on what your looking for from a set and what you value.

These sound perfectly fine for a first-timer, or casual fan. Not perfect, but fine. And affordable. Hardcore DBZ fans rant and rave about this and that, and recommend everyone (even noobs) get the Level sets (which were never completed, and are OOP) or the DVD Dragon Boxes (which are OOP, and insanely expensive).

I'm a fan (not super-hardcore), and I plan on getting these Steels as an upgrade from the DVD sets.

So they can rerelease DBZ every 2 years, but One Piece can’t even get episodes on Blu-ray? Way to prioritize funimation.

One Piece is at less than 50 episodes from reaching 1k episodes so they'll have to figure out a sensible way to release it.

50 episodes per season ($59.99?) could work, but the price may be more than its customers are willing to pay for.

Funimation laughs as they release 12 episodes per set and expect people to pay $35 for it

As a newcomer to the series, I would recommend that you watch Dragon Ball Z Kai instead of the original. The flow of the show is MUCH better in Kai and is way more palatable for someone new to the series.

These. Still not great though. But at least it's 4:3.

I second this. If you have never seen Dragon Ball Z before, Kai is a far more engaging experience. Please at least attempt to watch Dragon Ball first before Z.
