They found it under a few rusty cans of negative for some film called Day of the Dad, or something. Anyway, those cans were so rusty they binned the lot of them.

I emailed BU about this release. They responded with an Email that says that they were told by the lab overseas that the negative was in fairly good condition. The 4K scan and restoration work have just gotten underway, probably in time for a 2026 release. In response to the possibility of an open matte option, I was told it was “unlikely”. They didn’t mention if this restoration will be 1.78:1 or 1.85:1.

Maybe someone has some update.
I purchased the blu-ray of the film (for 10 bucks) a year ago because of my lack of patience (4 years of waiting). I am glad I did, the movie is a stinker.

I would rather flip through my Taschen Frank Frazetta book and Gurney´s Dinotopia books for two hours than watch this film again.

This is definitely not a blind buy movie.

Well good for you. Different strokes for different folks.

My expectations were pretty high when I found out the above artist were involved for the production of the film. Their artistry did not translate well into animation. It reminded me of a poorly edited episode of He-Man.

Lesser known fact: Thomas Kinkade did some of his early work for the painted backgrounds in this movie.

Kinkade and Gurney wrote a favorite book of mine “The Artist´s Guide to Sketching” Gurney has some videos talking about his journey through the country with Kinkade; forming the basis of their book.

I believe it might of been after when they contributed to the film.

Thank you for the cool fact.

Ugh, hate when people over exaggerate to make a point. I get it, you don't like it. In know way though is it like a poorly edited episide of He-man. It fits Frazetta really well, and and imagine most real fans of his being that disappointed with it.
