JACK AND THE BEANSTALK premiered in color on WOR's The Big Preview in 1965.

Or did it?

Check out today's update on the restoration campaign and help solve this mystery! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects.../posts/3021341

Unsurprisingly, I can't shed any light on your mystery.

It seems so strange that in an era of colour TV, that colour films would be broadcast from black and white prints. One would have thought that colour content would be in demand. Of course the cost of developing the prints is another matter. I never would have known that they were discarding the negatives and airing it from 16mm B&W well into the 1970s.

I remember you mentioned the same thing happened to Gog, and presumably many other films as well.

We're in the last few days of the JACK AND THE BEANSTALK restoration campaign. Less than ten copies remain of both the original 35mm SuperCinecolor frame from 1952 and Who's on First souvenir record from 1956. Pledge today to help preserve the film and secure these original Abbott and Costello artifacts for your collection!

I am delighted to announce that Chris Costello - Lou's youngest daughter - will be recording a special introduction to JACK AND THE BEANSTALK for our 70th anniversary restoration DVD and Blu-ray release from ClassicFlix.

Chris has very fond memories of this film and we are truly honored to have her participation on this project!

Came within a hair of picking up that VCI release but the forum thread pointed me here! Bob Furmanek to the rescue again! Kicking myself in the ass as I somehow missed this announcement and the Kickstarter as well. Also very pleased to read about Chris Costello's involvement mentioned above and look forward to yet another stacked release much like Africa Screams. No choice but to wait impatiently and pick it up from Classicflix.

Praying Bob and 3D Film Archive may someday get their hands on the remaining Warner/MGM films, In Hollywood, Meet Captain Kidd, Lost in a Harem, and Rio Rita. Yeah I know, a guy can dream can't he?

Coming to you in 2021: a Golden Age gem from Budd Boetticher, two Super 3-D Kung-Fu epics, an Abbott and Costello 2-D classic in SuperCinecolor AND one or two vintage three-dimensional surprises. Happy New Year everyone!

I wonder what it could be... the Abbott & Costello Show? The remaining Warner titles? Either way, I’m excited to hear the news!

As you know from my earlier posts, the original 35mm negative of this film has been gone since the late 1950s.

After a long delay, we have just received the first 4K test scan of an archival 35mm element that I recently found in the UK.

I have to tell you, I am absolutely blown away with the quality of this 69 year old print. I've handled many 35mm copies of this film over the past forty years and have never seen the opening sepia footage this clean!

Here's a frame from the raw 4K scan:

The next step is to acquire a 4K scan of the complete feature and I have given the archive a green light to proceed based on this outstanding quality.

Thanks to this recent discovery, you are going to see JACK AND THE BEANSTALK in a restored version on Blu-ray from ClassicFlix that will knock you out!
