They produced a ton of DVDs. If they were bootlegs they wouldn’t have been carried on many reputable online stores. I bought a ton of them from online stores. The issue is that they are dealing with Italian companies who break a ton of rules.

Online stores carry plenty of PD and bootlegs titles because they don't know better.

Either way, you can't release a pressed disc on Blu-ray without proof of a license. The Italian companies will often sell a license to multiple companies, but the fact that Wild East acquired a license through the license holder makes them not a bootleg company. Simple as that.

Agreed. Wild East are not a bootleg company.

The problem arises with many Italian movies and their licenses, even with far larger labels. Arrow and Blue Underground learned that with Django, and certain Italian movies have releases on 2 separate labels (like Arrow and VCI) with Blood and Black Lace and The Bird with the Crystal Plumage with conflicting licensed releases at the same time.

I wonder if another company can use the rights. I'm hoping for another SW set from Arrow.

I really enjoyed their work. I guess they were having a hard time releasing titles and it simply wasn't worth it anymore.

That’s a shame. Was able to score all of their blu-ray releases though.

Definitely a shame to lose a company putting out spaghetti westerns on blu-ray. I wonder how much it had to do with their last couple releases, considering they were quickly pulled from market. I was fortunate to have gotten them before that happened; I'm sure they'll be more difficult to get with them company closing up shop.

Real shame. Got the last 3 or 4 blus they put out, but would of loved to get their dvd releases too, but by the time I found out about them many of the dvds were hard to find and expensive.

Really hope some other company picks up where they left off and start releasing more Spaghetti Westerns.

Wow, that stinks. At least I was able to get every one of their Blu-rays direct from them.

I suspect the licensing snafus of the last 2 releases made them decide it just wasn't worth it anymore.

Bummer. I got their Blu release of Arizona Colt, which was a real good release. I hope someone else is able to pick up the rights to these films

They probably lost a ton of money on those two releases. They probably had to shred thousands of discs. Sucks. Their last few releases were actually pretty decent quality.

Apparently, co-owner Eric Mache wrote on his Facebook that they had to pull Shanghai Joe and The Ugly Ones due to rights issues. They also constantly had to police sites like Youtube and issue copyright claims to people who would upload their transfers.

Sucks. These Italian companies always seem like they are a hassle to deal with. I wonder who has the rights to Shanghai Joe and The Ugly Ones? Shanghai Joe came out like a million years ago and there hasn't been another release.

Someone did mention that, but there was no evidence or hints of that even being true. The Wild East release was already pretty good, so I'm pretty content with that title. Only way I'd buy it again is if it was a double pack with the sequel or part of some other package/boxset.

I was super bummed to hear this a few weeks ago. They got me into SWs and I have almost all of their releases, all the blu and all save a couple DVDs, as I've been pre-ordering from them religiously. Definitely going to be missed and an icon from the SW DVD days.
