It's something I can live with. I'm sure most people who don't have a surround setup won't even notice.

Easy enough to get around. I can access the back of my receiver fairly easy, could just move the left speaker wires over to the center channel output.

Should we have to do that to watch a movie? No. But it's a minor inconvenience.

Yeah, it will probably play fine for those without a receiver/surround set-up.

My Yamaha does have a normal "Mono" setting, but unfortunately that didn't help to correct it. I ended up and ran it through a full 7.1 "Mono" setting and cancelled out the rear speakers... and it then sounded fine coming from the L + Center + R speaker channels. It did take me a good 20 minutes to run through various settings and find a solution that worked, which was a tad irritating.

It might be far easier on other brands of receivers, I really have no idea. It was the first time I've even ran into this problem on a disc when running it through mine.

Otherwise though, it's a very fine release... and I can definitely live with as it was ultimately correctable after trial and error. But it should be mentioned in case anyone runs into the problem.

Some x-posting in case anyone is on the fence:

Late 80's post-apocalyptic... If you aren't sold already...

This is strange, it actually has more of an indie vibe, if you combined Jim Jarmusch with an Italian post-apocalyptic film and added some american punk flair this wouldn't be too far off. It's also an intentionally cheesy Western. Perhaps a bit of that Tank Girl comic book vibe I guess. And of course, the future is steeped in 1950s-by-way-of-1980s Noir.

This won't be for all of you, but it far exceeded my expectations! It's a fantastically mystical experience of late 80s cheese-Noir. Perhaps one of my best blind buys of the year! But I have a soft spot for indie flicks, post-apocalyptic films, Noir and Westerns so all in one! There's also that Kafka element....

Quote:
Now you've made me late...for bowling
Movies that come to mind while watching: Hellbent (1988), Surf Nazi's Must Die, An American Astronaut, Six-String Samurai, Repo Man, Liquid Sky, Alphaville, almost every Jarmusch film and a bunch of 90s Indies. It's not really like any of these but shares some aesthetics with all of them.

Don't expect much action, gore or nudity though. Expect lots of strange dialogue, fans and the hero singing greaser country. And one of the greatest bowling related put downs ever recorded on film. Hawk is the Anti-Dude.

I was feeling some SOV cheese after work... turns out this was actually 16mm but edited on tape (elements are lost).

When a film starts with a cop shootout and two cops play rock-paper-scissors to decide who sneaks in the house.... I think I'm in for a good time!sdddddddddddddddd788886 <-my cat wanted in on the review

Then we learn that the woman cop was promoted to detective, no one expected her to get the promotion. This slasher is heavy on the police procedural and light on the slashing.

nudity: 3/10
gore: 3/10
dimly lit corridor: 6/10
s&m dressed killer: 10/10
scantily clad women: 8/10
police work: 10/10
seductive photo shoot montage: 9/10
cock-blocking page: 10/10
reverend pimp with mullet: 100/10
very extremely so realistic sex scene: 10/10
weirdly sped up footage: 8/10
soap opera scene: 10/10
s&m final showdown: 9/10
scooby doo reveal: 10/10

There's some interesting lighting and camera work in the beginning but it seems to have been used up quickly. While not technically SOV it fills the same void. And one of the policewomen apparently went on to be in the fantastic Champagne and Bullets.

I'm already a fan of this label now!

We will also be releasing the original soundtrack composed by Culture Shock Releasing’s own @xianfiction and featuring the hit song “Angel Fire” performed by Jan Haflin. If you’re a regular @donaldfar fan you will recognize the song in most of his early works (Demon Queen, Cannibal Hookers -1987). The translucent blue vinyl is strictly limited to our bundle, a black vinyl version will be available for purchase separately on our site. Check back with us later as that’s not all we’re announcing today!

By the way, is it possible to get this thread moved into the proper "Studios and Distributors" section of the forum? I always spend a couple minutes looking for it in there before I remember it's just out in the main North American Blu Ray forum.

It's a minor inconvenience and not a big deal obviously. I'm not complaining so much as just bringing it up casually in case it's easy to do and a mod with the power to do it sees this.

So Girlfriend from hell is a blast. It’s weird, silly, full of bad jokes and a nonsensical story. I love it. Will have to pick up all the other releases. Looks like the slashdance dvd is the only one I miss out on.

The Slashdance DVD isn't technically a CSR release, so you don't miss out on anything I've kept the OP updated with a complete list

Culture Shock Releasing has some sweet titles in the pipeline. It is great to see this boutique label has grown so much in a short span of time.

They mentioned Slashdance might be re-issued in the future under the Culture Shock Releasing branding.

They posted an update on FB just now:

We know there has been some radio silence over on our end, but that’s only because we’ve been working hard at getting supplements (commentaries and interviews) on films from our currently licensed library for releases coming very soon.
We thought we’d share one rare on-set photo (of many) given to us by the director of an upcoming never-on-disc 1988 “man in suit” monster movie we're releasing soon on Blu. We can’t wait to reveal the title!

Is that snow? I'm a sucker for man-in-suit monster movies and for horror movies that take place in the snow.

Might be sand, hard to tell. The makeup people being in warm clothes makes me think snow though.

I would guess snow as well. Someone online said it might be Lone Wolf. Trailer for that one looks pretty fun if so:
