$35 plus shipping for an obscure Japanese film with a 50 minute runtime? And it's the label's first release? That's a tremendous start. Jared of MM is breathing into a paper bag somewhere.

I think they sold 500 within a few hours. That's kind of incredible.

Yeah, for a brand new label for a pretty obscure Japanese film with a 50 minute running time at $40, I think that's a pretty impressive start.

I think, more than anything, they're filling a sorely-vacant spot for a US boutique label with a focus on Asian cult and exploitation cinema that has been desperately missing for too long now. I imagine a lot of people are excited for the possible upcoming releases and want to help get these guys off the ground.

I forgot all about this. I just put my $37.88 down for it. I can wait a couple of extra days to get it with media mail.

They still have 381 copies in stock.

I agree. I'm a big fan of Italian cult cinema but I've been dying for more Asian cinema cult films. I just got Untold Story from Unearthed, but you're right, it's a solely untapped era for these labels. That's why I jumped on this, besides being a big fan of Tokyo Gore Police.

Looks like they're down to 293 copies. I wonder when they'll reveal what their next release(s) will be?

We’re thrilled we can finally announce some planned releases with you all! To start, we’re working on releasing both FUNKY FOREST: THE FIRST CONTACT (2006) and WARPED FOREST (2011) in HD for the first time. We’ve lined up tons of extras including a Director’s Cut of FUNKY and several other new features with creators Katsuhito Ishii, Hajime Ishimine and Shunichiro Miki. In addition, all of the features from the old FUNKY dvd will be included as well!

If you’ve never seen or heard of FUNKY FOREST, you’re in for a treat! We’re huge fans of it here at Error_4444 and we feel it’s probably best described to a newcomer as if David Lynch and David Cronenberg went on holiday together to Japan and then returned to pitch their experiences to Adult Swim.

As for WARPED FOREST, it remains mostly unseen with only a small festival run in 2012. Since then, its been locked away, but we’ve found the keys!! Working as a pseudo-sequel to FUNKY, WARPED is also filled with the same zaniness that we’ve all come to love—including naked women trees that grow vagina-like fruit, animals that feast on nipples to bring sexual pleasure and kaiju-sized humans living and working normal lives.

We're proud to unleash both of these cult oddities back into the public consciousness!! In addition, we’ll be announcing two 80’s Hong Kong horror titles very soon. So strap in and stay tuned. Thank you all!

Holy cow - I’ve been waiting over a decade to find a reasonably priced copy of Funky Forest. And now it’s coming, in HD... and from a new label?! This is a bombshell of an announcement.

Warped Forest is huge! I was lucky enough catch that at a festival about 10 years ago and have been dying to watch it again ever since, but it was never released even online. One of the most pleasantly surreal movies I've ever seen, almost can't believe it's finally getting a release.

Awesome announcements so far! They also said they'd be announcing two Hong Kong Horror films next week.

I order this to support them. Anyway, I love Japanese cyberpunk and the like. This is very exciting. I could see them potentially occupying a similar niche as Third Window Films does in the U.K.

I also emailed them to suggest 964 Pinocchio and Rubber's Lover.

I've actually never seen Funky Forest or Warped Forest. Warped Forest is a bit more elusive, but what does everyone think of Funky Forest? Has a pretty solid cast.

I think I read somewhere where Media Blasters are going to be releasing "964 Pinocchio" on blu ray in the future.

It isn't just elusive, it doesn't exist. It played at a few festivals in 2012/2013 then completely disappeared, not even a bootleg surfaced over the years. It even earned a page on the Lost Media wiki. The fact that it's finally getting a release, especially a bluray release with Funky Forest, is incredible.

As for Funky Forest it's mostly great, like most anthology movies some segments work and some don't, just comes down to preference. Definitely worth checking out though.
