I haven't seen the remake since it's cinema release. As others have said, it starts off well enough... But it really lost it's nerve in the last twenty minutes. Has anyone listened to the Frank Oz commentary track? I've enjoyed some of his commentaries in the past. Is he candid about the production or does he keep things close to his chest ; Pretty much everyone who worked on the film eventually had bad things to say about it.

Back when this movie first came out I had a bootleg from the internet that was a very different and noticeably better cut. I’d love to see it get an official release. I can’t remember all the differences, but I remember it made internal sense compared to the theatrical version.

Oz and Kidman balked at the final product, because the studio interferred: they wouldn't go with murderous husbands and in the end it was a disaster. When are we getting a release of the great original one?

Sadly, I believe the original is one of the much requested movies being held hostage by Bristol-Myers. The original Heartbreak Kid is another.

Also, the original Sleuth.

Some major studio like Paramount, Universal, or Sony just needs to write BMS a big check for the overall rights to those films so they can finally be in the hands of a company whose business is film and TV. BMS, a pharmaceutical company, has no business holding something hostage from an entirely different industry. It wouldn't just be for physical media; the studios could also exploit the films through streaming, TV licensing, merchandising, and potential remakes, and several million dollars is practically pennies to them. Unfortunately, I wouldn't count on any boutique label ever being able to afford BMS' asking prices.

I found a used copy of Paramount's 2004 Stepford Wives DVD, but aside from the opening logos/legalise, it's just a repress of the 2001 Anchor Bay disc, and in dire need of an upgrade.
