The official Facebook page for Adult Swim's Toonami programming block announced on Wednesday that the One Piece anime will return to the block on Saturday at 1:30 a.m. EST (effectively, Sunday). Toonami will air episodes 517-518 in a one-hour timeslot this weekend.

The full lineup for January 22 includes:

12:30AM – Assassination Classroom
1:00AM – Made in Abyss
1:30AM – One Piece
2:00AM – One Piece
2:30AM – Naruto Shippūden

Adult Swim's Toonami block began airing One Piece in May 2013 starting with episode 207. The premiere garnered 995,000 viewers. The anime left the block in March 2017 with episode 384.

One Piece debuted on Cartoon Network's original Toonami block in 2005.

Adult Swim has elevated Gill Austin as VP and creative director of creative production, the WarnerMedia network announced today. Austin has been with the company since 1996, working on one of its early precursors— Space Ghost Coast to Coast. In his promoted position, Austin will report to Tricia Melton, CMO of Warner Bros. Kids, Young Adults and Classics group.

“Gill is an OG when it comes to Adult Swim, so he’s the perfect fit to lead the team that creates unique and surprising content for both fans and partners,” Melton said in a statement. A graduate of Sewanee: The University of the South, Austin’s first role at Cartoon Network was as an intern. Shortly after, he was hired as a production assistant in network development and worked on the launch of Toonami, Adult Swim’s late-night programming block. Most recently, Austin was the senior creative director for Adult Swim on-air, where he ran the department focusing on show promos, custom partnerships and Toonami content. Now, Austin will manage the internal structure of the on-air and sales promotion departments, work closely with the Adult Swim marketing team, and lead the creative direction, development and implementation of all facets and communications related to network promotion. Austin will remain based in Atlanta.

Adult Swim, which now reaches its fans via WarnerMedia’s HBO Max, has offered original and acquired animated and live-action series for two decades on its linear channel. Some of its most popular shows include “Rick and Morty,” “The Eric Andre Show,” “Tuca & Bertie,” “Shenmue the Animation” and “Blade Runner: Black Lotus,” among others.

I was wondering why there wasn't a ratings post on the Toonami subreddit this week.

My guess is because it took a few days to get Naruto’s ratings and Cowboy Bebop is still unknown how poorly that did last week. I mean by the time Naruto aired, it ranked so low that it didn’t even make the Top 150 list and Cowboy Bebop being on after that means it probably did even worse.

Usually those subreddits and Toonami Faithful want like the entire list of how the whole night did. But because the night was so bad that it just becomes an unknown when you have almost half the block not even being able to be on the list.

Cowboy Bebop is reruns so it doesn’t really get added to the Top 150 no matter how well or poorly it does. But I guess the site thinks that Cowboy Bebop’s numbers are not even worth at least a mention. Like it could have maybe even been a 0.01 or something like that.

Well Toonami has bounced back from bad weeks more times than we can count. About half of the viewers at times get distracted when there is something else on TV to watch like some major sports event, a UFC or Boxing match or whatever and then just come back the following week. Even Saturday Night Live sometimes takes away viewers on some weeks.

Jason DeMarco was basically pointing out that there are some hidden numbers not counted like DVR recordings, On Demand, or whatever.

Hawaii’s KIKU-TV Goes Back To Airing Japanese Programs

The official website for Hawaii's KITV4 channel announced on January 31 that the KIKU-TV channel has relaunched as KITV4's sister channel. Byron Allen, owner of Allen Media Broadcasting and KITV4, closed the purchase of the channel on January 31.

The channel started airing on February 1 and features Japanese and Filipino programming, with plans to add Hawaiian cultural programming in the future. In addition, the channel also airs KITV4 Island News programming. The channel plans to air programming that had been aired on KIKU-TV before for the first few months, and then plans to add new programming. KITV4 newscasters stated the programming will include English subtitles.

KIKU-TV airs over the air on channel 20.1, and also airs on Spectrum (1009), HI Telecom (1020), Direct TV (20), and DISH (20).

KIKU-TV stopped airing Japanese and Filipino programming on June 28 and began airing ShopHQ at all times. According to the KITV4, the change was met with "tremendous public anger and strong social media responses."

KIKU-TV launched in the 1960s, and the channel has aired tokusatsu shows, live-action dramas, travel shows, and news programming from Asia and America.

The channel has in the past aired anime such as Baki the Grappler, Kiddy Grade, Shin-chan, Tenchi Muyo GXP, Blue Gender, and more through a partnership with FUNimation Channel, as well as other anime.
