Watched the pilot (pun not intended) of Pan Am. Initial impression is that there was plenty of potential in this show, and based on the episode this was an expensive series (which probably didn't help it in the end).
Failure or otherwise, really seems like there's potential for a big-budget series which chronicled the company through characters over the course of years decades in actuality. Mr Selfridge did it for Selfridges and The Crown has thus far been doing an enviable job for, well, the crown. A Pan Am series may be a bit more challenging in that we'd likely have to change characters over the course of seasons and so forth (giving a picture of the travel, the business, and more), but I believe it can be done. Hopefully HBO/HBO Max, Netflix, or someone else will attempt it eventually. |

I remember having to get home from school every day in order to watch this. I hated missing it. Unfortunately they pulled it from the local station early for some local show. We watched it for a few years though.
Because they basically filmed live with no rehearsal I can remember a few slip-ups. This would be fun to watch again but with 1230 episodes according to imdb, that's a couple years worth of catching up |

On the one hand, I feel like I don't watch that many shows, but on the other, I also feel like I have several going right now.
![]() * Picket Fences - I've been slowing revisiting this show on DVD for months now. It still holds up well! * Chapelwaite - just finished watching this on Epix. The first few episodes were slow, but it built up nicely and told a nice, scary story. * Chucky - current on the first two episodes and enjoying it so far! The kills have been fun and Chucky's personality is great. * Walking Dead - current on TWD, FtWD, and World Beyond. I do feel like I'm going through the motions with this universe to some extent (it's the completist in me), but FtWD just had a decent season premiere and I liked the first chunk of TWD episodes. I'm not really the target audience for World Beyond, but it's ending with the current season anyway, so I'll see it through. * I Know What You Did Last Summer - just started watching this on Prime today. The characters are fairly unlikeable, but I think they're supposed to be. ![]() So much to watch, so little time!! |

"The Lieutenant" (Mother Enemy, April, 1964))
I have known of this series for decades but had never seen any of it. This episode had Walter Koenig as a sergeant applying for officer training, but his mother is a communist activist using her son as a pawn to denounce the Marine Corps for not giving him a fair break. Lieutenant Rice must submit a recommendation for him, having to decide between national security and the rights of the individual. Robert Vaughn plays Rice's CO. Gary Lockwood is almost perfectly cast as in the title role. In the four episodes I've seen this is an above average series. gary.jpg |
