FWIW I consider it well below things like The Wicker Man and Witchfinder General. Witchhammer is a great movie with clear influences from Bergman and Dreyer, though willing to go a bit further.

Meanwhile, I'm trying to convince myself that I don't need the trinkets. The book can be purchased separately, which would be my main interest, but that 'map' looks interesting...if that were to be available separately then I could do without the other gizmos.

Edit: Okay, cool as it looks, I decided I can live without the folk horror map. While I don't dislike any of the gadgets in the bundle, the reality is I wouldn't get any used out of them, and being $64 cheaper (including shipping) without the bundle definitely made the difference. I can still buy the Penda' Fen book for about $20 if I decide I need it down the road.

That’s too bad. I first saw it years ago when I was streaming a bunch of Vincent Price movies. I’d just watched Cry of the Banshee and it popped up in the recommended list. I was pleasantly surprised and kinda fell in love with it, especially since it turned out to be a better movie than Banshee. I’d rank it close to some of Price’s better movies like Tomb of Ligeia or Witchfinder General.

Apologies if already asked - do Severin take payment for pre-orders immediately or on dispatch?

I'm surprised Blood on Satan's Claw is not included. I'm glad I won't have to buy that movie a third time, but kinda bummed out for everyone who missed out on Severin's release. That movie is one of the best this genre has to offer.
Good film but for me, not a patch on ‘The Wicker Man’ in terms of subgenre.

Do we know how the discs are gonna be stored in the box? Separate cases or some book-type packaging?

We don't know yet but I'd have to imagine it's going to be similar to their Adamson and Milligan sets which were book designs that housed the disks in sleeves.

besides wickerman, blood on satans claw and the witchfinder general, would you guys say that this set is pretty comprehensive? is it missing any other essential folk/pastoral horro?
There are plenty of titles from all over the world mentioned in the documentary. As for essential, I would definitely recommend checking out the old BBC series of annual 'Ghost Stories for Christmas'. Most of them are based on stories by M.R. James, who was keen on folkloric horrors.

They have been released in a nice DVD set in the UK by BFI. Unfortunately, so far there are no plans of upgrading them to Blu-ray, so you will have to be able to play region 2 PAL content to enjoy the DVDs. Some of them (maybe even all?) appear to be available on YouTube, so maybe start there.

Sweet, someone already bought my OOP Field in England disc.

The Severin set gets cheaper. . .

I wouldn't wait. Diabolik posted last night on Twitter as a reply when asked if they would be selling it that they weren't sure they were going to get any at all and encouraged people to buy direct from Severin.

Is the OOP Severin Blood On Satans Claw the only way to see that film in proper quality?

There’s a German 4K UHD which is apparently an AI upscale.

Otherwise there’s a UK Blu, with cover art stolen from Stuart Manning.

Such a weird coincidence that I pulled out my Eyes Of Fire LaserDisc earlier today and was dreaming of having at minimum, a widescreen DVD of it. So happy this is happening!
Couldya whip out The Keep if you happen to have that on laserdisc? Thanks.

I hope it's not the same format as the Milligan or Adamson sets - while space-saving, I think this set deserves a little more. I would prefer that it be like the VS box sets (ie Forgotten Gialli). I'm already low on space, but I can see this one as a centerpiece of sorts.

Hope I am wrong, but with a release date after the black Friday sale, I doubt you will get it in December. They are still shipping orders from their summer sale....

Not sure if this is a concern for you (or anyone else considering selling the discs), but during the newest podcast episode, Severin confirmed that the versions in the box set of Viy and A Field in England will not include all of the special features on the standalone Severin and OOP Drafthouse Films discs. I don't recall them mentioning Eyes of Fire, so (unless I missed it) I assume that disc will be the same.

Question

I'm definitely intrigued, but I haven't seen anything in this set (except for Celia, which I may not even classify as horror). The price is certainly reasonable for a set like this, but also steep for a blind buy. What are some more well-known movies that might be a good barometer of whether someone would enjoy what's included here? (I've seen The Wicker Man mentioned, and I love it, but that's an extremely high bar.)

At 4000 units available, I am not too concerned.
