select quotes from article
"As mentioned already, the Strato V retails for $3995, which will open it up to a new world of clients and projects. In fact, Kaleidescape estimates that Strato V sales will likely have a near 50/50 split between new and existing owners. And while previously Kaleidescape was likely the single-highest-cost line item on a proposal, it will now likely be one of the “cheaper” components in a nice system." "In the streaming age, where there is such a glut of new content constantly rolling out, many people aren’t collecting movies like they used to. Content to watch once and move on, the idea of owning a system capable of storing thousands of titles feels like overkill. With its near 1 TB (technically 960 GB) solid-state drive, the Strato V stores around 10 4K HDR movies, which is a perfect amount for a non-collector. With its ability to download a film in about 10 minutes via a Gigabit network connection, you can easily purchase/rent and download a film (or three) before dinner, watch them immediately or plan for a weekend film binge, delete the content when you finish watching, and then add more." https://www.residentialsystems.com/t...v-movie-player |

Only the Kaleidescape system is authorized by the movie studios to offer bit for bit 4K Blu-ray image downloads with the rented or purchased movie remaining on the hard drive/solid state drive as a studio authorized encrypted file. The problem with the Zidoo UHD8000 media player and all other media players (except for Kaleidescape) is that it requires the consumer to purchase a third-party optical disc copying program that removes encryption from the disc file when being copied in order to playback the movie from a media player. Breaking the encryption off a disc is illegal in many countries. Studios are not happy with media players that make it easy to playback movie files where the encryption was removed by a third-party software program.
Kaleidescape is both better quality and 100% legal way to download rented and purchased movies. Plus easier to use since no copying of discs with a third party program with the Kaleidescape system. Select quotes from article “For about a year and a half I had the privilege of having a Kaleidescape Strato C Movie Player paired with its Terra 48TB Movie Server in my home on an extended loan from the company. The plan was to test the system, write a review, and continue reviewing titles available in the Kaleidescape store during the loan period.” “The UHD8000 is built around a new movie poster management system, but in order to utilize this, you need to link the player with your respective movie folders. The process is intuitive and once the connection is made, the Zidoo goes through a process of matching your files with an online database which takes a few minutes to complete, depending on the size of your collection.” https://www.soundandvision.com/conte...eo-enthusiasts Last edited by HDTV1080P; 11-13-2024 at 09:51 AM. |

One of the biggest negatives of the Kaleidescape system is that for each additional TV in one’s home, it well cost $3,995 for each Strato V player. A large family with 10 TV’s means over $40,000+ after taxes for the Strato V players connected to ones 10,000Mbps home network or 1,000Mbps wired home network. Therefore, for many people spending $3,995 for each Strato V system connected to each TV or projector is an issue, especially for someone that paid $5,000 or less for their display (someone with a $60,000+ projector in several rooms would be more open to spending $3,995 for each additional Strato V).
The Kaleidescape system hardware and software engineers should consider creating a home network Kaleidescape system app for the $149.00 Apple TV 4K streaming box and also a Kaleidescape system streaming app for the $99.99 Google 4K TV streaming box. Both Apple TV and Google TV latest 2024 streaming boxes have a built in RJ45 ethernet jack with a speed of 1,000Mbps. Sadly, the Roku Ultra 4K streaming boxes between the years 2016-2024 only have 100Mbps ethernet and therefore the Roku Ultra is not fast enough to stream 4K Blu-ray discs over the Kaleidescape system (The year 2016 OPPO 4K Blu-ray player has a built in 1,000Mbps ethernet jack but no programmer plans on making a Kaleidescape system app for the OPPO UDP-203). It could be 5 to 10 years before a Internet streaming provider like Netflix or Amazon offers 4K Blu-ray streams over the Internet, however the Kaleidescape system engineers could work with Apple TV and Google TV to create a Kaleidescape system app that will stream from the main Kaleidescape system hard drive download storage system. So having one main 200TB Kaleidescape system DVR storage system with the ability to connect a Apple TV streaming box or Google TV streaming box would be ideal for mainstream consumers. One does not need any more then 150Mbps per TV to stream a 4K Blu-ray disc image with lossless audio if the main Kaleidescape system hard drive download storage system allows it. A 10,000Mbps wired home network is plenty of bandwidth for over 60 4K streaming boxes that would use 150Mbps in streaming speed for each box over the home network if the main Kaleidescape system hard drive download storage system supported home network streaming. The Kaleidescape system would become much more popular if it only cost $100 to $200+ for each additional TV in the home instead of $4,000+ for each additional TV. An encrypted secure 150Mbps streaming connection app could be created that would make the Kaleidescape system much more affordable to the average consumer. https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-tv/apple-tv-4k/128gb https://store.google.com/product/google_tv_streamer? K is for people with plenty of money and there's no denying that. If it seems too expensive it's because you are not the target audience. They have gone out of business before so anyone buying into that closed exclusive system should keep that in mind. Last edited by bhampton; 12-12-2024 at 07:05 AM. |

However, since REDBOX and Netflix no longer rent physical optical discs anymore. I would consider sometime in the future buying one Strato V player for $4,000 with the purpose of renting 4K Blu-ray disc images with lossless audio. If the Strato V is every made for $2,000 many people would buy it for high quality 4K Blu-ray rentals.
Its when one adds hard drive TB storage and boxes for other TV’s is when the system can cost $150,000+ for the hardware and additional money for the movie purchases. |

As you well know, there are plenty of online services that still rent physical discs for those that want that option. |

Streaming companies release their subscriber numbers. I wish Kaleidescape would release the amount of new systems sold. Are they selling 100,000 new Kaleidescape systems every year? That is important information for a consumer that is about ready to spend $4,000-$150,000+ on a system.
While the Kaleidescape system is the ultimate and best system in existence for watching downloaded 4K Blu-ray BD-100 disc images. The company should consider going mainstream. The Kaleidescape system and company are in danger of competition coming out with a cheaper and better service one day. Also the Kaleidescape system is in danger of streaming providers starting to stream at a constant 150Mbps to offer 4k Blu-ray disc streams with lossless audio. In 2026-2028 8K streams with lossless audio might become a reality from certain mainstream streaming providers. This would place the Kaleidescape system and the 4K Blu-ray format in checkmate unless both systems come out with a better 8K movie delivery system. |

The only thing I care about regarding Kaleidescape is their financial status. Kaleidescape has been on the edge of financial ruin more than once and that shaky history does more to prevent me from buying into their system than does their expensive hardware prices.
As I understand it they are a privately held company and thus they do not have to share this information. |

The first two times they got into trouble were because they were circumventing copy protection, an act that is illegal in the US. Now they only allow purchase/rent from their store that is supplied by the studios. I’m sure this time they won’t have any problem with the studios anymore.
