It’s quite bizarre how this film has been treated outside of the USA.

Agree 100%, and I hope A24 is able to leverage Mr. Scorsese's praise of PEARL into a successful Best Actress Oscar nomination campaign for Mia Goth. She absolutely deserves it.

Not a chance. Not because it isn't deserved, but I doubt any of those eligible to vote will either have seen it or want to.

picked mine up at Target earlier today after swinging by Best Buy to pickup the Reservoir Dogs steelbook.

Mine came out to around $13 after the Target Circle discount.

Most Academy voters are actors*, and studios send out free screeners to voters. It all comes down to whether A24 decides to launch an aggressive campaign, and they could definitely get voters interested in checking out the film if they highlight Mr. Scorsese's praise of it.

Chris

*Ironically, the above has been suggested as one of the reasons Scorsese lost the Best Director Oscar twice to first-time actors-turned-directors (Redford and Costner).

Went to one Walmart that had a single abused and battered copy followed by another that had zilch. Threw up my hands in frustration and said Phuket and just ordered from WalMart.com and I’m sure what will be delivered several days from now will look like Satan shat it into a flimsy cardboard mailer because there’s nothing good left in the modern world.

I feel ya. The retail experience, customer service in general, quality, conscientiousness, general attitudes, have all gone to record-low levels of shizzle, at a mind-numbingly brisk pace. It's more disturbing that about 80%+ of folks at large don't seem to notice or care in the least.

All of the copies at my walmart looked like they were in the trenches with Pearl's husband. Not one salvageable copy, so I got the standard one at Target.

I drove to Target last night in the pouring rain to pick up a copy. Found the new release display completely empty, except for Top Gun: Maverick. Target app showed two copies of Pearl in stock at my store. I asked an employee in the electronics section for assistance. At first, he said if it’s not on the display they don’t have it. I said it looked like none of this week's new releases had been put out. After complaining that movies aren’t his department, he said he would go check with someone. After a few minutes he came back and said they were sold out.

I would add to the above that stores really don’t care about movies anymore, to the point where they don't care if movies even make it to the sales floor.

I picked up a Walmart copy. I actually prefer the cover art of the standard edition, but I did not realize until after my Walmart purchase that there were different covers. No worries, though, since my X Blu-ray and this are likely just stopgaps until A24 puts out a 4K set.

Yes, yes they are. I grabbed a couple copies of the Capelight 4k uhd import mediabook for "X", and it's easily worth the difference over the somewhat pasty, anemic-looking blu, even just in terms of the contrast and color gamut.

Me too this is an outrage. I am starting to get scared we arent getting a Blu-Ray release at all for it overseas I wouldn't be so miffed about it if it wasnt from Lionsgate in US since they ALWAYS region lock their titles so i think this will be too sadly

The Canadian release from VVS Films is region-free.

Is the Walmart slip spot-glossed like the standard slip or is it just entirely glossy?

All glossy with some spots that shine/reflect brighter than others.

I always thought if USA releases were region locked, Canadian releases were too.

Thanks, it’s not available at moment but I will pursue if Universal don’t release a Blu-ray here (unlikely)

For big studio releases (Warner, Universal, Fox, etc), we usually get the same disc as the US. However, we do have some local distributors (like VVS) that will release their own disc, such as is the case with "Pearl". It's very much case by case when it comes to region locking, but I've never seen a region locked disc from VVS yet, so they are a safe bet.

I should also note that the VVS release has a Dolby Atmos track, while the USA disc from Lionsgate only has DTS HD 5.1. The sole extra is a 15 minute "featurette", which I think just combines the two featurettes from the US disc.

Is the cover art the only thing different about the WM exclusive?
