U can use HDMI to DVI and get 1920x1080 without any problem.
Have you actually done it?

According to the users manual for Panasonic TH-50PZ700U and TH-58PZ700U models PC signals are supported via DVI to HDMI in these settings:
640 × 480 @75Hz
852 × 480 @60Hz
800 × 600 @60Hz
800 × 600 @75Hz
800 × 600 @85Hz
Macintosh16” (832 × 624)
1,024 × 768 @60Hz
1,024 × 768 @70Hz
1,024 × 768 @75Hz
1,024 × 768 @85Hz
Macintosh 21” (1,152 × 870)
1,280 × 1,024 @60Hz
1,366 × 768 @60Hz

It doesn't list 1920 X 1080.

And it's also a negative point for the Panasonic display not to support 1920 X 1080 resolution from the traditional 15-pin PC monitor input. The Sony XBR4 TV supports 1920 X 1080 from both the 15-pin PC input and HDMI.

That becomes an even more critical factor when you consider the Panasonic monitor has only 2 HDMI inputs (the Sony XBR4 has 3). It kind of sucks to have to waste one of those two HDMI inputs on a PC source since its 15-pin connection maxes out at a mere 1280 X 1024.

It takes more than just connecting a DVI to HDMI cable to a computer to get 1920 X 1080 resolution. The HDTV monitor itself must properly communicate with the PC and its video card so it will send the HD monitor a 1920 X 1080 signal.

Fellas Fellas...They are both excellent T.V's. I prefer Plasma so thats why I choose Panny. If you like LCD/BR the XBR are prob the best you can get. So can we just lay down the swords and have a big hug already!

Agreed, they are both excellent. I just don't like disrespectful personal attacks that people like to do here on the forum. It's uncalled for just because someone has a different opinion. I don't lose sleep over this or anything.

The latest Sound and Vision magazine... talking about people who are real video/audio-philes (people who seduce young audios and videos..haha) They compared the Pioneer Kuro to the latest Samsung 81 LED LCD series - with the plasma TV the clear winner. Clear in more ways than one. CNET will put anything on top so long as the price is right and you can read the manual and get tech support... hardly the way to rate a television. It doesn't matter which LCD TV I watch in the stores... I see clouding, inconsistent pixel quality (since every pixel needs a transistor), banding, poor blacks... across all LCD TV's including the XBR4. I thought the motion flow was cool... but not cool enough to make me forgo picture quality. When I am 6" away from my screen and I light my panel in any color... every pixel is exactly the same color... not blotchy like LCD.
<- when i first saw this... I thought it had something to do with *****...LOL. What is that emoticon doing??? Suckin' in *****?

Anyways

The XBR and Samsung top models are excellent as far as LCD goes. Also, If you get a DVI to HDMI converter

http://www2.dvigear.com/codvidiautoh.html

You can get 1080p on ANY TV from a PC... so if you want to hook up your PC it makes no big fat deal altho you gotta buy a small piece of hardware.

CNET gives the Pioneer 5080 8.7, i just checked it. The XBR4 was 8.3. Of course we all know CNET ratings are a total cop-out for those who can't find real ratings... I would not trust CNET for real ratings. How did the 5080 get 8.7, while the 5010 got 8.1??? The world will never know.

Anyways... my Panasonic 750U plasma has the most appealing picture quality for the price to me. I use it for call of duty 4, PS3 games, blu-ray movies, TV, and everything... looks excellent... and at 100,000 hours... I am not worried at all... new TV's are cheap like borscht.

bestbuy no longer carries the xbr4. i guess i will go get screwed by circuit city because all the ones around me have at least4 in stock. Circuit city only does 60 days price match compared to BB's 90 and circuit city has no rewards program so i lose $60 there. (every CC cuopon excludes the xbr line)
