If they’re working closely with Disney would they even let them?

Most of Disney’s licensing has avoided animation, like Anchor Bay, Kino, earlier Criterion titles, with the exception of Gravity Falls from Shout.

Most in need of discs for Disney titles aren’t WALL-E, but older catalogue titles or some Disney+/Hulu exclusives.

I’m skeptical of Disney avoiding censorship and DNR, but then Saludos Amigos was releases uncensored with the smoking scene on Walt & El Grupo DVD, while Victor Through Air Power was released on the Walt Disney Treasures DVD series.

The hopeful positive is this makes more people aware of Criterion, gives them greater profits therefore allowing smaller titles to be released/restored.

I just hope the new extras aren’t brief and insubstantial, while the student short film and The Pixar Story I believe have been released before on other releases. I suppose if they released something like Toy Story in future they could integrate the DVD extras, are there other rarities out there that haven’t been on disc?

Of course Pixar has been undergoing some uncertainty recently, with Lasseter moving over to Skydance following the allegations, shifting to streaming releases for Soul, Luca, Turning Red and the critical and commercial underperformance of Lightyear.

Seems to be a return to Criterion releasing digipacks as well?

Considering the November release date, I wouldn't be surprised if this was the reason why the November announcements were delayed.

I'd keep that steelbook if I were you cause it's awesome. Maybe just swap out the discs when you get the Criterion or just keep both versions.

I thought this was a joke by the DiscFather when I saw it on IG.

Dude has been right about a lot of things. He may have posted this after the official announcement of course.

I’m shocked to see this collab though!

This announcement restored my hope of a "Honey, I Shrunk The Kids" 4K release. If this sells well, Disney might be inclined to license out more titles. Count me in, specially since I don't own the original 4K release of Wall-E.
That said, I don't see how this disc can improve/differ much from the previous one since it is an animated film. We'll see.
Exciting nonetheless.

2022 just keeps turning out to be a banger of a year!

Another sign that physical media isn’t dead (yet)! Let’s keep them coming!

Everyone asking “why?” needs to read the description on the Criterion web page:

Quote:
Transporting us simultaneously back to cinema’s silent origins and forward light-years into the future, WALL•E is a soaring ode to the power of love and art to heal a dying world.
Obviously these themes and elements struck a chord and not just the Andrew Stanton reputation.

Probably the best Disney movie of the last 15 years, imo, but this is strange.

I would love a Criterion 4K release of Grosse Point Blank, but I know that's probably a long shot even if they are working together now.

Disney licensing a Pixar movie(s) to Criterion is incredibly optimistic news to me. We are one major step closer to Criterion re-issuing Armageddon and The Rock in 4K.

Very unexpected but welcome news.

This is tied with the “Toy Story” trilogy as my favorite Disney/Pixar movie. It’s such a beautiful story about love and the environment.

I’m curious what the future will look like with Criterion x Disney.

I know I'm alone here, but I Hate this movie. The vision of humanity becoming a bunch of useless slobs watching TV in a space ship is a little too plausible. Makes me depressed. I have the same issue with Idoicracy.

I'll get this. I love the movie, it's nice to have DV, and (like the existing release) they thankfully included the original 5.1 track and not just the watered down Atmos remix.

But even if you aren't interested in this particular release, the mere possibility of Criterion getting their hands on some of the Fox catalog is very exciting.

Disney/Pixar Criterion?? Holy shit. I mean, they selected a fantastic title to debut their partnership, but wow, this is truly stunning news to say the least.
