Disney's were the best. They released 3D Ulimate CEs with four discs sometimes, only to later release UCEs in 4K but only 2 discs and very basic.

Spielberg has been real hit or miss for me lately. I still think he's the GOAT but The Fabelmans didn't really connect with me. I've never really liked movies about Hollywood, theater, etc. To me it feels like watching the sausage get made...not interested.
There were interesting bits (poking holes in the film, Lynch, etc) but overall it didn't connect. Spielberg movies sometimes feel like they have a polish to them that can make them feel a bit fake. As if you're aware of the filmmaking instead of being immersed by it. I've noticed this on a handful of his movies. I really did think I was going to like it before I saw it and watched it without knowing anything about it. It was nice to see Lynch and the movie ends on a great note, but as a whole I have zero interest to watch it again. 6/10 For me, of the last 10 Spielberg films: 1 of them was phenomenal. 3 were good. 5 I wouldn't watch again. 1 I didn't see. Of the previous 14 Spielberg films: 8 of them were phenomenal. 2 were good. 2 I wouldn't watch again. 2 I didn't see. There is still a decent amount of Spielberg's work I haven't seen yet. |

I loved WSS, so I'm sad to see that there's no demand for the UHDs. ![]() |

If I don't hear David Lynch explaining about the relative value of the horizon coming from over my head, it's not as Spielberg intended.

Could it be complicated by it being HBO? Not sure what the relationship between WB and Universal is like at the moment. Surprised it didn’t really get any kind of a theatrical release outside of NYFF premiere and has only really been broadcast on HBO.

If this ever goes to $10 I will buy it just so I can watch and watch and watch the Christian girl scene.
So much easier to get to a scene on disc than digital. I know youtube will eventually get just this scene too. I go to youtube just to watch my favorite scenes sometimes. Gene Hackman and Michael Rooker inside the Redneck bar in Mississippi Burning Casey Affleck and Michelle Williams at the end of Manchester By The Sea Denzil Washington in Equalizer 2 entering the frat boys apt. What's her name? Game of Thrones Little Finger Trial and Arya's two scenes with Walder Frey |

Oh a physical release of the Spielberg documentary would be a dream alright, especially an expanded edition.
The off-cuts from the interviews alone must run for hours. The likes of Harrison Ford and Tom Cruise show up for maybe a couple of minutes apiece. I can't imagine for a moment that their contribution represents all that they had to say. |

Still have PTSD when I made the worst theater decision of my life by choosing Birdman over Nightcrawler. That’s a movie I’d skip had I known. Not interested in dramas like that and I’d rather watch something like Minari. Last edited by Dreamliner330; 02-10-2023 at 07:55 PM. |

Spielberg has made a ton of excellent films, many of which are bona fide classics, but I'm not really interested in an autobiographical film about his family life. I didn't even know this film existed until I clicked on this thread this morning purely out of curiosity. Interesting that the studio behind the film also seems uninvested in it - I wonder if Universal was even reluctant to finance and/or distribute the film. Frankly, I'm not surprised it flopped. People want old school spectacle. If anything even smells like a vanity project, moviegoers are likely to skip it and maybe save it for Netflix or some other streaming view.

The bit about the movie “flopping” is not the own you think it is. A bunch of generic Marvel movies made $1 billion recently but that doesn’t make them good. |
