£300 is the seller (more than likely a member of an enthusiast's forum) who has all the boxes.

It’s no wonder collectors suffer with FOMO, this selfishness really takes the shine off this hobby. Such a shame but that appears to be the world all over today.

And since I see this topic of scalpers come up every once in a while in various threads, I figure I'd throw in my two cents on the topic, because it's been on my mind a bit lately.

In really thinking about it... I actually don't blame the scalpers all that much for doing what they're doing. It does suck that it's affecting one of my hobbies, for sure, but who I really blame more are the people that regularly BUY the items from them at those prices. If everyone were to start saying "No, I don't need it that badly", then the scalpers would be out of business in a damn hurry.

And look, when I starting building my 4K collection, I contributed to the problem myself. I got into the format only towards the end of 2021, and after starting off with some standard 4Ks, I soon came to the conclusion that 4K was going to be the very last format I ever collected. And so because of that, I wanted to get fancy and I started collecting steels and limited editions. Stuff I could easily live without and just get the standard version when they're on sale and be perfectly happy. But damnit, I have the means, and I want this 4K collection to be something worth passing along, so I went for it. And because I got in late to the format, I'd already missed the boat on a lot steels. So yeah, I paid about $95 for the steelie of The Shining. About $80 for a USED (but good condition) steel of The Incredibles, etc, etc...

And now that I'm all caught up on the stuff I missed, and I know all about the scalpers and what they're up to, I've learned some valuable lessons. I know I've got to be diligent in checking this site at least once a day. I know you've got to be very quick on the draw with limited sets like The Fifth Element here. I know sites like Diabolik and Orbit are my friends.

But back to the scalpers. Here's the sad reality: There is currently an OCEAN of people's wasted money just floating around above us, and I think the mentality of the scalpers is "I may as well snag a few cup's worth out of that ocean for myself. Why not?"

Think about how much money has been spent on Fortnite skins. Think about how much gets donated to Twitch streamers or women on OnlyFans. Or all the people paying for ten or more streaming services each and every month, when most of those services aren't even used on any given month. The list goes on and on and on and on.

Here's an anecdotal example: About a week ago I was getting a drink from a gas station after filling up my car. The guy in front of me bought two of those little single-dose boxes of Advil. Each of the boxes contained TWO caplets. They rung up at $2.50 each. The guy didn't question it at all. Didn't flinch. Without a moment's hesitation, he plopped down $5 + tax for FOUR Advil caplets and strolled out the door. Meanwhile, one measly block away, there is both a Walgreens and a Dollar General right across the street from each other. At either one of those places, he could've purchased an entire bottle of 100 Advil caplets for probably around 8 or 9 bucks (give or take).

Point is, a lot of people are very, very foolish with their money (inlcuding myself on occasion). And as annoying as it can be that it directly affects this hobby that I care about as well, I can't exactly get too mad at the scalpers for recognizing that little fact and taking advantage of it.

It's not like they're hoarding bottles of water and selling them for $50 apiece after a natural disaster. We can all live without these oversized deluxe editions with all the ridiculous tat. We don't NEED the Multipass.

It still is a very unfortunate situation all around, though. Don't get me wrong.

Much as I like this one better, I'll settle for the US Sony "reprint" steelbook. No way I'm paying eBay prices for this thing. $29.99 beats $100+ for some shiny spray-painted metal any day no matter what it looks like.

Well the Zavvi release also has a different 4K transfer. Now that I have both the Zavvi/Studio Canal transfer is better all around. The steelbook is also way nicer which is why I scrimped and saved for months to make sure I could get it. I definitely understand where you're coming from though.

I got the mid-version and am happy with it. But how do you guys feel about the artwork? I thought it looked great at first and in the promo images. But looking a bit closer, some of it almost looks like A.I. art. A little messy here and there, a bit undetailed in other parts. The artwork that appears on stuff like the folder is even sloppier.

Did anyone else order the 1/4 slip or regular steelbook item and has it shipped? I have that one ordered and it has not shipped yet. Or was this version actually cancelled? Figure I get a better answer here than Zavvi as there customer service is aweful.

I hadn't been checking on the Zavvi site over quite a few months, and consequentially missed this deluxe set, and the Leon set - however the Leon set came back in stock for a few days so managed to nab one a few weeks before xmas. After seeing the quality of the box and contents, looked on ebay to see if i could pick up the fifth element set for a reasonable price ... managed to snag one on auction for around £115 quid (+£5 P&P). Bloody nice sets! The multipass in the FE set is really cool, solid metal, soon as i saw it i picked it up and went "Multipass" in my best Leeloo voice
