Nah, things had to be done practically back then. That’s why they used real surgery footage as they swapped Travolta’s actual face with Cage’s.

I do make jokes about the face swap, like it couldn’t have just been the face. I remember watching it on VHS back in the day, and turning to my friend and saying— “wow, when they swapped he even remember to graft John Travolta’s knuckle hair to his hands!”

Kino, which means it’s a roll of the dice, will it be the best thing ever or a total hodge podge...

The concept was always ridiculous, in fact if you cared it’s worth tracking down the original script which was full sci-fi in the future.

Woo was the one who brought it back to the present, grounding the film not through realistic science, but through character drama, and honestly that’s why the film works as well as it does despite the ridiculous premise.

As a fan of John Woo and 90s action blockbusters you'd think I'd love Face/Off... but I don't. I don't even like it for some reason.

How can you not like what is basically a big budget, John Woo directed Travolta v Cage scenery chewing competition (which Travolta wins imo).

It's my favorite John Woo movie, and one of the few Nicolas Cage movies I can tolerate. Far-fetched, excellent acting, fantastic action sequences... and of course, doves. Great movie!

Same here. I think the film is too long, the pace sluggish and the action scenes aren't even as good as "Hard Target" let alone Woo's HK films.

always wondered they made it that they literally traded faces instead of just having some sci-fi machine that transferred their minds or something. Guess they wanted that queasy gore factor

Yeah that's it. The gore that literally wasn't even there outside of a
quick reflection and millisecond cutaway. Bra-****ing-vo...

Loved the shit out of it in '97. Got steadily bored with it throughout the years to the point of not liking it anymore. Then something amazing happened. I watched a print with a big audience earlier this year. Seeing it through 2022 eyes with a crowd lovingly laughing their asses off throughout gave me a new appreciation. Now I see it as complete camp and I love it more than ever.

No idea. When I saw the trailer my balls got the tingles but I just don't like the film.

It's psychologically implied gore. Just like the brain-slicing in Hannibal or every single murder in Se7en. The sheer ickyness makes the audience queasy without actualy seeing anything.

You got to at least appreciate the boat chase. That boat chase at the end is one of the best boat chases ever put on film. Considering not many action movies do boat chases because lets face it they're much harder to pull off. So many awesome practical stunts, you don't see that anymore.

Nah man. Nothing in Face/Off, implied or otherwise, comes close to the sloth victim in Se7en. The Hannibal thing was just silly.
