This is a very strong line up of titles. Already placed my pre-order as fast as I could. I've only seen half of these, so especially excited for the ones I haven't. I already have the Shout release of Crime Story/The Protector, but these should be a massive upgrade if it's using the same masters that 88 Films used.

Is Shout still working with Sony? Drunken Master and Snake in the Eagle's Shadow could use a region A upgrade from the old Twilight Time release.

I really hope that they have an HD remastered version of the Hong Kong cut of The Protector. I've been working on my own fan reconstruction of the Japanese version, using the blu-ray from Japan. It is EXHAUSTING trying to cover up those Japanese side-titles!

The best quality release of the Hong Kong version was released on a French DVD by Metropolitan. The HK version included on the 88 Films blu-ray was just an upscale of that DVD.

The Japanese blu-ray from 2014 has the Japanese version in HD, but it's from a film scan, very grindhouse, but also has burnt-in Japanese side-titles.

Fingers crossed! And if anyone can provide an update, please do!

This is a stronger set of films no doubt but I will have to pass since I've seen most of these and own my favourites in their standalone deluxe UK Eureka/88 editions. I haven't seen The Protector or Crime Story, but if I decide I need to own those I will go for the 88 versions.
Do treat yourself to 88's release of Crime Story! Great movie

Great lineup. The volume 2 set covers a handful of Chan titles that have yet to get a new US release. Leaves us with Project A I/II, Miracles: The Canton Godfather, Drunken Master, Who Am I?, Twin Dragons, and the late 70s/early 80s films that the Criterion Channel is streaming (Fearless Hyena, The Young Master, etc.). Worth noting that Eureka's Drunken Master is Region FREE. Very pleased with this and hoping Arrow/Criterion/Shout will finish off the rest of the newly restored batches that came out in the UK already.

So Shout is just dumping every Jackie Chan classic into their crummy looking box sets? I find this pretty annoying and I’m glad I’m region free and was able to get all of these in much nicer packaging.

These films should be celebrated individually or at least in their respective film series, and not just dumped into a big amaray case. I didn’t mind as much they did this with volume 1, as let’s be honest those were a lot of his lesser earlier works, but this one is loaded with classics, so I really feel bad non-region free American fans have to settle for this.

To those who don’t care, at least you should still be getting the same nice transfers I’ve been enjoying the past few years, just really wish Arrow, 88Films, or Criterion had picked up some of these up in the US.

Even Echo Bridge had the decency and respect to give them a single film release each.

Are.................are you joking right now?

The Echo Bridge releases were dub only and some (Project A and Dragon Lord) had pretty miserable transfers. I mean, yeah least you have the Miramax cuts for completionism's sake but come on.....

And The Medallion isn't in this sey NOR released by Echo Bridge!

As a casual Chan fan, what releases are must owns on blu and 4K?

I've pre-ordered this, and volume 1 is on my radar though none of the movies in that collection really grab me. I own the Warner Archive Mr. Nice Guy and Drunken Master II as well as Criterion Police Story 1&2 and had pre-ordered Police Story 3 in 4K. I grew up on the dubbed American theatrical movies, but of all those only Rumble in the Bronx is the one I really enjoy in English.

Boutique labels should just sell packaging since that's all people ever want.

Seriously, I'm 100% about the content and am always annoyed when I have to pay twice as much just for packaging.

I feel you on the idea of the films getting a little shorted here in the US, but there's always been a bigger market for them in the UK. Kinda tough to blame Shout for being the only US company that's been able to bring these releases to Blu-ray in any way. If any company could make more money by releasing them individually here, I would think they would have done that by now. I already own all of the UK Jackie Chan releases and that was the initial reason I went region free.

These sets are highlighting Chan's career way better than putting out solo releases over the course of months/years would do, so it's rather strange to see some believe the opposite. Some of these films are more obscure as well, and would sell very poorly if released individually, so they needed to be in a set.

Plus, these sets are an excellent value. At a $99.99 MSRP, that works out to ~$12.50 a Blu-ray. And in all likelihood many people will buy it for less than the MSRP, making for an even greater bargain.

Can't please everyone. Each film gets its own disc to breathe and it also saves a ton of space. I actually welcome collections now more than individual releases for space reasons especially. The first sets box was pretty nice overall, so I'll be happy if the second one is similar enough. Plus the line up of films here? It's fantastic.

I can't imagine why anyone would hate the idea of a boxset. We're finally getting good Region 1/A releases of these titles for a fraction of the cost that it would be to buy editions with big fancy boxes and lobby cards that sit in the box (for me at least). I'll get way more mileage out of a boxset like this and my wallet will thank me.

Everyone mad Halloween 1 to 5 UHD were individual then Miramax Halloweens were in one box set and they got mad about that. People begging for Disney to license movies out again, they sign a deal with Mill Creek to get out of print titles back on shelves; more crying.

Heck in the Avatar 2 thread, two members here are mad I went to see the damn movie for the story and critiqued that. Rather than praise the visual effects and give the movie high marks for being pretty. Isn’t that a problem with Marvel movies now? Too pretty to look at but too stupid to listen to?

My point wasn't about packaging as much as having the respect of any specific films to give them a proper solo release. By just lumping all these together it's like them saying "nobody knows what any of these films are, so let's just put Jackie's name on it in big letters and cram a bunch of films in there to maximize our profits."

Except Shout AREN'T the only US company able to do this. They clearly bid the highest if they got the rights, but you can see Arrow and 88Films not only doing Jackie releases in the US, but more obscure martial arts films as well. And still giving all them the proper respect of nice individual releases (with the exception of the Shaw boxsets, but at least those have nice presentation).

Again, if someone just wants a big set only for the discs, and doesn't care about stuff like packaging or booklets, then there's no argument needed. My point, though, is that Shout is robbing anyone of an option to buy these individually in the US.

I love what was done in the UK by 88Films and Eureka, and trying to argue there's no market in the US is flat out wrong, hence why many fans like me imported those releases. I think what's happening here is Shout is ASSUMING there's no market and doing this to again, maximize profits and reduce any risk they might have of these not selling for their typical price points.
