Yes I did, I have been messing with it to see if I could find what makes it spin. I return it to its original position when I get ready to test it.

Can you get a full picture of this with perfect lighting? The last photo of this was too dark for me to see.

I just made things alot worse. I am about ready to give up and just throw this piece of crap away. As u can see from the pics, I broke some piece of plastic that holds those gears into place.

Its time to bite the bullet and call Sony as that looks unrepairable at this level of support.

The reason why I asked for that additional top picture was that I was having the same issue. This was because of the arms of the top half of the disc drive not being properly aligned to drop the disc onto the spinner.

Yeah I know what ur talking about, my disc falls on the spinner and I here the laser activate, but it doesnt start spinning. I know the problem ur having cause I ran into that a couple of times and fixed it. I just want to know what makes the spindle spin the disc. I am about to take apart either my PS2 or dvd player to see what makes them spin.

Hey Fellow DevilDog, do u think that the spinning of the disc has something to do with the eye of the laser??? I am brainstorming possibilities.........

I think that the literal spinning of the disc has to do with whatever is connected to the black spindle. I'm sure you've done this but double check the connections that may be attached to it.

I asked what happened after you switched back the hard drive I thought. Did you notice a change if you went back to your previous hard drive?

I recommend transfering your Saved Games to a USB device and formating your hard drive completely and see if there is a difference. Unless you keep your PS3 in a very dusty area I don't see that really affecting its performance this significantly.

Did you open up your disc drive with a disc already in it?

What happens when you turn on your PS3 and force a disc into the drive, does it play it then?

If it doesn't play Blu-ray discs, then it is a bad laser and you will need to replace it.
