Part of the reason I despise the Ewoks, Sherwood Schwartz shows were an after school staple at the time, and when Star Wars greatness deviated into Gilligan’s Island shtick that I’d seen over and over, (Gilligan and/or skipper caught in a net, cut and dropped to ground abruptly, captured by natives, potential burning at stake, Gilligan fools natives pretending to be a deity , etc) I was devastated.

and yet.... it's better than everything released after it (with the exception of Revenge Of The Sith....)

Return of the Jedi is just as great as the first two films. 5/5 across the whole OT for me.

Return Of The Jedi is the best Star Wars film, hands down.

"Devastated" eh? Oh well, you were still at school. I guess you still had much to learn about perspective.

It's to show he's a changed man, lending his prized ship to his best friend.

It sure is. The OT is really hard to rank. The best one is whatever one I just watched.

Changed in what way? Since TFA put him back as a smuggling pilot I forgot.

Knowing now that Harrison Ford maintains he always wanted Han Solo to die off, for whatever reason, it makes some more sense that Han traded in his wings to be boots on the ground, and got shot for his trouble. Which is realistic I suppose as Han's background didn't make him seem like an expert in soldiering for forest guerrilla warfare.

But I still see it being like if Top Gun 2 had been about Maverick tagging in with the Green Berets and Iceman filled in for Mav in the cockpit.

He was a man in love, he could not bear to be away from Leia during the battle

Return of the Jedi isn't my favorite film of the OT, but I've enjoyed the bulk of it ever since I was a kid. I always thought the Ewoks were cute, and Vader's redemption was very well done.

My favorite of the OT, but the terrible Jabba's palace rework, no Sebastian Shaw and no yub nub means not a chance from me.

I'll give you Sebastian Shaw but Victory Celebration is such an improvement on Yub Nub that it's not even funny.

Jedi Rocks is ok, but that whole palace dance sequence should have gotten cut. Saves the surprise of the Rancor that way.

My issue with the new victory celebration is that the music is out-of-place; almost too New Age-y for Star Wars music. Yub Yub fit the film much better.
