I'm switching to cheap RedBox rentals for new movies. Streaming does not replace what I want, though I do sub to channels when deals happen

Netflix studios sometimes releases movies on the 4K Blu-ray format and 2K Blu-ray format. Even though they decided to exit the DVD and Blu-ray rental business, hopefully they well still release new movies on 4K Blu-ray and 2K Blu-ray for purchase at retail stores and for rental at an automated REDBOX machine.

Around a year ago REDBOX was purchased by Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment for $375 million dollars. While the cool REDBOX name is still on the automated machines, I wish the Chicken Soup company would have a name change. Also, the stock price of Chicken Soup for the Soul of Entertainment is hanging around the 52 week low of $0.31. At one time the stock was $7.64 and now the stock price closed at $0.33. Maybe Sony, Panasonic, and other members of the BDA might want to start buying up some stock.

If REDBOX ends up getting over one million of Netflix’s optical disc renting customers, then maybe more REDBOX machines might be added and the stock might go above $1 a share. However, if the demand for physical media decreases, then the stock could go to zero in the years to come, or maybe one day REDBOX might switch to 100% streaming since they already offer streaming already. But the stock price does look attractive at this price level. Hopefully the company well stay in business, but it could be delisted from the Nasdaq if that stock price does not get to a $1 or more by March 20th 2024.

“The company on Sept. 22 was notified by the SEC that its stock is in danger of being delisted by NASDAQ because for the preceding 30 days shares in the company have been selling for less than the $1 per share minimum. The company has been given 180 days, until March 20, 2024, to “regain compliance,” according to the filing.”

There used to be multiple Redbox machines in my town (including in my store), but the only one left is outside of the CVS downtown.

It is until someone zips you up inside it and tries to shove you in a mail slot.

After a month, I think it's safe to say I'm not getting any bonus red envelopes. Phooey!!

At least I got to keep the DVD of The Dam Busters.
