Very interesting. I guess I will be picking up both releases. I didn't like this one too much, but like the second one, it's okay and the first film is very good.
I wonder if the imax version will be Dolby vision or just hdr10. Cause if i remember correctly. bad boys for life was released as imax enhanced and just had hdr10.

Equalizer 3 (2023) was natively mixed in dts:x. Equalizer 2 (2018) was not. Dolby Atmos. Just saying.

Equalizer (2014) will either get DTS-HD MA 5.1 or 7.1. 7.1 was the original mix. Sony can fix their misstep and include 7.1 this time.

Equalizer (2014) 4K Blu-ray 2018 release got Dolby Atmos & DTS-MA 5.1.

Remember, unlike Atmos, DTS:X home is incompatible with DTS:X theatrical. It will be a remix.

This will be Sony's first IMAX Enhanced titles in quite some time.

Equalizer 3 did not have any scenes in the IMAX ratio at my IMAX screening. 2.40 throughout.

So, the standalone Equalizer 3 has Dolby Vision, but the 4K Trilogy(which I've had pre-ordered for a while) release has HDR(NO Dolby Vision)? Am I understanding this correctly? And that's because the 4K Trilogy release is IMAX-Enhanced? And DTS-X instead of Dolby Atmos on all three. Will IMAX-Enhanced then, open up the aspect ratio to 1.90:1 instead of the OAR of 2.39:1? I believe that's what the IMAX website eludes to regarding IMAX-Enhanced. I've not experienced this before. Just wondering what to expect? Thank you.

**Edit** It appears on the back insert of the 4K Trilogy that the OAR is retained for all three films. Perhaps the IMAX-Enhanced part is the 'supposed' better? audio.

Hang on...

Did they actually downgrade the first movie to DTS-HD-MA 5.1?

I don't see Atmos or DTS X under its specs.

For Imax Enhanced supposedly it is based on the 12 track or 6 track fixed channel soundtrack. The home mix adds LFE for compatability and assumedly tweaks things. My guess is the first film was a 6 track which is effectively 5.0 with center height so maybe they dropped the center height. The other 2 were likely 12 track so 7.1.4 with an object a little below the center height speaker position. DTS:X can better represent this than Atmos as it offers center height as an option even if it is generally used in larger setups only. Still a little annoyed they did not properly implement the first film, Denon specifically documented that the 5.1 with CH source layout is supported for the 6 track scenario.

Sony is trying to make things as confusing as possible.

Isn't the UK version cut compared to r rated us release? That was the trend with the first two.

Hmm, interesting that Sony would do that. Would definitely be curious to know if there are any big differences.

Since you can't have Atmos on an IMAX branded release (apparently), they dropped it and were too lazy to do a home DTS-X mix.

The IMAX-Enhanced 3-Movie set is a joke, since none of them have expended aspect ratios. You are basically getting worse versions of the existing discs, without DV, Atmos or extras.

Well they're both certified by the bbfc at 15. I think the R rated us edition is the one for me. But it looks like the steelbook is a best buy exclusive

The UK UHDs of 1+2 are rated 18 and uncut.

Yeah but there will always be some froot loop who wants it because it's got an IMAX sticker on it, so props to Sony for keeping the dream alive. They're using every marketing wheeze that they can to extract every last drop from 4K consumers and...I kinda love them for it. All we ever aks for are options and by Golly the big S sure does give them to us.
