Hard to believe this has been out for almost 2 months, and it's still pushing $35. In my opinion, that's unreasonable for a movie that's nearly the same in age. It's on my Amazon list, but I'm leaving it there until it drops by at least $10.

It just seems ridiculous to me, that any studio would charge the same amount for a decades-old movie, as they do for a new release...even in 4K. And considering the fact that the few extras are ported over from the previous Blu-Ray...I can't justify the expense at this point. Now, if they had gotten Dan Aykroyd, Jamie Lee Curtis, Anna Chlumsky, and Macaulay Culkin to do either a joint retrospective or commentary, I might've had a different stance. But as it is, I'll wait until it falls to $25 or under.

I like lower prices too, but when looking at 10 years ago, inflation puts a vanilla $25 release from then right at the $33 average price it sits at today. Eh, we can complain, or hunt sales. Go to Pop Market on eBay, leverage the 20% off for 3 that's been in play for a month, and get it for $26. ![]() |

At the end of the day, it's really basic supply and demand at play. Some people are actually willing to pay higher prices for "old" movies because they enjoy and find value in them (who woulda thunk?). We're also at a juncture where the physical media niche market is becoming a smaller niche every year. That means prices will have to go up on the existing customers to keep the niche market going to whatever extent. There just aren't as many buyers as there used to be. If these titles or future ones are not profitable enough to whatever the studio targets, say goodbye to them. It's that simple. There is a reason laser discs were ~5X more or whatever higher priced than VHS back in the day.

It's more likely because Amazon has the UHD incorrectly listed as "Blu-Ray" instead of "4K". I know a UHD is still a "Blu-Ray", but Amazon categorizes UHD Blu-Ray discs as "4K' and 2K Blu-Ray discs as "Blu-Ray". I can at least see people assuming it comes with a Blu-Ray. And the UHD listing is cheaper than the standard Blu-Ray - way cheaper right now since I see a 30% off coupon on the listing. |
