Hmmmm.....I didn't download the full title just tried the practice stuff and it wasn't rotating for me. I don't have screen lock on at the OS level

They definitely added landscape orientation, but I still prefer the portrait orientation, since I got used to it already.

I spent years playing Sonic All Stars Racing on my phone in wide-screen. I never could get used to playing MK in portrait mode.

Maybe they will keep this type of game on smartphones, or maybe older IPs that Nintendo doesn't have high-sales expectations for (like F-Zero) will get a f2p version and have cross-play/cross-buy across NS2 and smartphones.

Meh, I never pay much attention to cell phone "games," and for good reason. Didn't know this existed.

Man I really hope they fix the internet speed on this thing. Turned on my Switch tonight and forgot how excruciatingly long small updates take to download.

I bought Super.Mario 3D World back when it came out on Switch a few years ago but never got around to playing Bowsers Fury until a few days ago. My god, the loading screens between boss fights and cutscenes is painful! I'm so spoiled by this gen's quick loading!

I’m so excited for EVERYTHING to be on SSD level speeds going forward. Even if Switch 2 isn’t going to be PS5/Xbox level speeds, UFS will still provide something like 10x the loading speed of Switch 1.

Bowser's Fury felt like a big missed opportunity. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and levels. What killed it for me was the loading times and especially the Bowser mechanic that destroyed whatever you were doing and was impossible to avoid. I'd love another Mario Sunshine themed 3D game, but this wasn't it outside of the atmosphere.

I wonder if the sliding joy cons in the trailer is a hint that they can be used as a mouse

Yes, there are rumors about this being implemented. Seems like a heavy implication in the trailer to me (and others).

It’s great the next console was finally announced. The Nintendo Direct in April will be here before we know it, and it’ll likely release in June or July.

I’ll definitely preorder it, along with the new Mario Kart. Also excited about a new 3D Mario game. Those are my two favorite types of Nintendo games, so launch year will be perfect for me.

I really enjoyed Bowser's fury, but I agree. It's not so much Bowser appearing, but the frequency of it started to bother me toward the end when it felt like it was killing my progression every 10-15mins.

Man, I cannot get over how many people on social media are complaining that the Switch 2 isn't different enough from the Switch. To be honest, this is kind of what I wanted. I didn't want Nintendo to overthink it and get weird with the Switch successor. No need to fix what isn't broken. Just improve on an already great formula! It seems to check all the boxes I wanted for the system...

More powerful? Check
Bigger screen? Check
Bigger JoyCons? Check
Sleeker? Check
USB port on top? Check
Backwards compatible? Check

I mean, this is pretty much what I envisioned/hoped it would be. I'm not sure what the complainers were looking for but I know one thing, I wish Nintendo had followed this strategy after the Game Cube instead of giving us the Wii, which will go down in my book as Nintendo's worst generation!

They finally didn’t get all weird and gimmicky on us with a generation change and it’s fantastic.

The Switch is easily their best generation overall in my opinion. Lots of great new games, definitive versions of old games, access to a ton of classics through NSO (buying them would be preferred, but oh well) and multiple series that are fully/nearly fully represented on one console. And that’s in spite of having all of it run on a potato. Hopefully the backward compatibility irons out all performance issues with Switch 1 games and we can hit the ground running for another 6-8 years with all of that carrying forward.

I’m very excited for the next generation. And between this and the PS5 Pro I’m also looking forward to not have to worry about buying any new hardware for at least the next five years

There's a Eurogamer article I reuse to click on that seems to be (from the headline) complaining about crap like this. Why does Nintendo have to innovate with hardware? I've never thought of them in that sense. My wonder has always come from their software.

Right. It just has to be good enough for Nintendo to execute their creative visions. I'm not looking to Switch 2 to play GTA 6 or Witcher 4. I strictly want it to play Nintendo 1st party games and unique 2nd and 3rd party exclusives like Astral Chain or Mario + Rabbids. In fact, the only multiplat game I ever bought on Switch was Starlink, and that was just to get the exclusive Star Fox content. The rest of my Switch library is 1st party.

Man I would love Astral Chain 2 on this thing. Nintendo owns the IP outright now so they can do whatever they want with it.

My hubby showed me the trailer last night and this looks awesome. Especially with Mario Kart 9 being a launch title!

OLED is not all that essential , the PS5 portal does not have it and the screen looks awesome.

Got my copy of Donkey Kong Country Returns for the Switch the other day. Load times can be nearly DOUBLE on this version compared to the original Wii version, which is ridiculous being a few generations ahead. While I'm glad the game got some sort of re-release, it feels like a downgrade in some respects. The fact that this has a Metacritic score about 10% lower that the original version says a lot.

Then again, I think most of us saw this coming when Forever Entertainment was announced as the developer handling this. They're best known for remasters/remakes that range from mediocre to lousy, like House of the Dead, the Front Mission games, and Panzer Dragoon. Really hope Nintendo NEVER works with them again.
