I personally think it's a huge shame. There is absolutely no need for it. A lot of people put a lot of work into these sets, only to be undermined by AI.
I fully agree with you about the unecessary use of AI. I prefer to leave it to the creativity and talent of real people. The more I look at this whole AI thing and that is beyond film or TV show AI restoration/enhancement, it is concerning and really freaky.

‘Godfather of AI’ predicts it will take over the world | LBC
Nobel Prize winner Geoffrey Hinton, the physicist known for his pioneering work in the field, told LBC's Andrew Marr that artificial intelligences had developed consciousness - and could one day take over the world.

Mr Hinton, who has been criticised by some in the world of artificial intelligence for having a pessimistic view of the future of AI, also said that no one knew how to put in effective safeguards and regulation.

Andrew Marr and Geoffrey Hinton refer to AI as Alien Intelligence. It sounds very much like Doctor Who.

Still no official release date? Amazon says 31st December 2099 and Zavvi says 31/12/2025,so possibly just copied Amazon's info but understandably assumed it will be this year.

Not that I'm too bothered as I haven't found the time to watch the previous set yet, but it would be nice to know.

On the Us side of things the Amazon Date for the region ! release says Jan 23 delivery. Since the previous Collection sets have a difference of about 3 months apart from UK to US releases Id expect the UK would see this around nearing holiday time late Oct, Nov.

I'm betting October given Blake's 7 date has been locked to November 10th.

So it has, at least according to my HMV order. Amazon, Rarewaves and Zavvi haven't changed their listings.

The new issue of Doctor Who Magazine has some great details on the set.

One that caught my eye is the confirmation Pyramids of Mars will include optional updated special effects, which will be the CGI from the Tales of the TARDIS edit inserted into the original episodes.

And the awful Skarasen sock puppet, from Part Four, will be replaced by stop-motion(?), and, also, selected shots of the beast from Part Two.

I didn't think the new CGI from the cutdown Tales Pyramids could cover everything for the original four-parts version?
