Hey all, I'm not going to go through every comment here and reply to each one so hopefully this will answer many of the same questions/concerns:

Yes, we are aware of the design issues and yes, we are going to fix it. We are working out a plan for this internally as I write this and people who have bought the release will be notified of the plan via email.

Personally, as someone very involved in this release, I'm pretty mortified that these issues were not caught sooner but am grateful that they were caught prior to shipping anything to anyone. Rest assured, we will make it right. This release will be great and will make fans of these types of films very happy.

More soon.

At this time, I want to thank you and the crew for even releasing these films. A dream come true to see these actually get attention and restored. Watching VHS rips of his films for years, cosmetic artwork mishaps isn’t stopping me from being over the moon with this announcement and hope volume 2 isn’t far behind (hopefully with Pervert Ward S&M clinic so this current artwork can be saved for that release haha). Thank you again

I'm curious what pink films would fans like to see released. My top 5 I would like to see released( Of course, there are several more from different decades, but I decided to keep it at 5)-

1) "Daydream"(1981)
2) "Girl and the Wooden Horse Torture"(1982)
3) "Dream Crimes"(1985)
4) "Arietta"(1989)
5) "The Dream of Garuda"(1994)

On the subject of "Daydream"(1981), please consider a box set from one of the most important pink directors, Tetsuji Takechi, who was a brave visionary. He was adept at both softcore and hardcore films.

I'd really love to see these as well as all of the Delinquent Girl boss films.

My biggest wish is to see all of the Takashi Ishii films make it stateside, especially the ones Third Window just released as well as the two Flower and Snake films he directed. I've not Sweet Whip, Hello, My Dolly Girlfriend, A Night in Nude: Salvation, and The Brutal Hopelessness of Love, but I feel like those would be a good fit as well.

While not Pink films, I would love to see VS go after the two Black Angel films and all three Gonin films as well. Freeze Me sold like hot cakes, so I think there is demand for his films.

Now that I'm hep to Takashi Ishii (thanks again), I'd be all over the Black Angel and Gonin films. I figure those are the among the best to scope out next.

The first Black Angel and Gonin are probably his best films. The Black Angel films seem like a sure fire hit for any label that releases. Bad ass woman going after the gang that killed her family one by one. Almost like a Lady Snowblood that takes place in modern Japan.

If I had to pick his best film though, it's gotta be Gonin. Takeshi Kitano as a one eyed hitman is a sight to behold.

Can't say I'm familiar with Hisayasu Satô, though I've heard of Naked Blood. From the description it sounds like he's on the more transgressive, surreal side of things. Am I right to expect something closer to Gaira's Entrails trilogy than the Nikkatsu RP films? I already ordered the set so guess I'll find out soon enough anyway.

Was happy to see the runtimes. Hour-long movies are cool. Wish they were still a thing.

Mine are all Hisayasu Satō films.

Birthday (Molester's Train: Nasty Behavior)
Kyrie Eleison
Wave (Lady of the Stable)
Pervert Ward: S&M Clinic

I’ll be excited to upgrade dvd releases for films like Survey Map of a Paradise Lost and Naked Blood too, but the ones listed above, like the films in the first set being released, haven’t seen disc releases anywhere in the world. I only own Kyrie Eleison on a Japanese VHS.

School of the Holy Beast is one of my grails of any genre. I'm region-free so been able to enjoy the releases from 88 Films and Third Window (god bless them).

I would find it a little weird for a Melusine sub-label to release standard pinky violence since those, with maybe some exceptions, feel like regular exploitation. There's nudity and sex, but not to the point they feel pornographic, especially in comparison to pink films (of the non-violent variety) and Roman Porno. Not that I would complain. I love pinky violence and support any label releasing it.

I feel like that's accurate. And it was already stated that none of the 88 Films releases would be duplicated in the pink line. But I figure the more any given title is talked about, the more likely it is that it will eventually get a release from someone. Besides, the Pink Line is likely to evolve over time just like Vinegar Syndrome has if it proves to be successful and has a long run.

technically, it's not possible. nikkatsu trademarked the RP name to differentiate from independent pink films. those pink films continued during the time of RP, and have existed long after it's overall demise. this is because they're a separate concern. even though it has been difficult to get people to discuss RP over the decades, pink films are pretty much entirely dismissed for no good or substantial reason as far as discussion is concerned. it's good to see people here know pink film, and love sato even - it impresses me no end - and this label is more than well-served by the astonishing output of that field. everything RP and pinky violence would warrant it's own sub-label, and clarity which doesn't confuse the three. there's already a lot of that here. again, similar, but not the same.

Great explanation -- and yeah, be it Pink, Violent Pink, or Roman Porno, I want whatever apparatus is necessary to spring into existence with unforgiving force to unleash a malevolent storm of Japanese exploitation on an unsuspecting world.

To that end, I'm going to keep talking about everything I want to see even when it's not within the margins. Demand inspires supply.

No reason for any other films not to appear on any of the other mainline or sub-labels if so needed.

Koji Wakamatsu is another pink director I'd love to see covered in a box set. His chunky autobiography is called I GET MY HANDS DIRTY.

Japanese critic Yoshiaki Suzuki did a book called PEACH COLOURED MACHINE - SEARCH FOR THE LOST PINK FILM, which is a couple of hundred pages of him interviewing various super obscure directors and following up leads for missing pink films. It has chapter after chapter where you basically go, shit, I'd love to see those, but many of the films are very hard to get, or are lost. He has a chapter on Shinya Yamamoto's GREAT LUST DEMON, which he says is a masterpiece. There's also a hair-raising chapter on the phenomenon of 'Hot Spring Pornos' at the various mountainside spa resorts. The cast and crew from the various Nikkatsu Roman Pornos and other pink productions through the 70's and 80's would wrap filming by taking a break in one or another luxurious spa deep in the countryside, up in the mountains, far into the forest, wherever some idyllic resort for tired businessmen was set up, typically with a pool, bubbling springs, accomodation, a great mountainside resort for men to travel to and relax. The directors, producers, cast and crew of those pink films soon figured out a clever way to save money. They had the director, his camera crew and a bunch of hot actresses. Why don't they shoot an exclusive 16mm film, at the resort, with all the usual pink goings on, including sex scenes gentle and otherwise, and then they can give the finished short movie to the resort owner, and he can advertise it as an exclusive title you can only see in Japan if you visit and book a stay at the spa? So the producers would save money for the cast and crew who would stay for free, and the resort owner eventually got a rare (and sometimes quite extreme) pink film short so salarymen could watch cute actresses cavorting at the actual resort they were staying at. The shorts were advertised on flyers with stills of the actresses, come see the exclusive short here! Dozens of these were made and Suzuki reviews a few, enthusing about the camerawork and noting one with an outdoor scene where an actress has a very bad time right in front of some locally famous ancient temple gate.

A surprisingly high number of pink directors have written autobiographies - Teruo Ishii, Masaru Konuma, Norifumi Suzuki, Giichi Nishihara (his book is big on his Yakuza days), and others - and there are also a similarly high number of Japanese volumes just on Nikkatsu, or on the topic of pink films overall. Sato isn't one of the directors that wrote an autobiography but he did contribute a long interview to a 90's book that interviewed him and most of his contemporaries. His involvement in the Vin Syn releases should give us heaps of info though. A long run of Sato's titles on disc will be super welcome - his films are full of themes of weird voyeurism, media consumption, and storylines like 'after being brutally attacked the beautiful woman became obsessed with finding and filming other nighttime attacks with her private video camera' etc - and I'm really happy VS have put that release and this line together.
