As best, it's equal or slightly inferior to standalone PQ and AQ(output/interfaces).

CNET considers the PS3 a reference BD player. I know I know, lets now hear some CNET bashing..

There are people who love the PS3 as a Blu-ray player and those who don't. That's it. Let it go already, and agree to disagree.
Seriously. I agree this thread is pointless. People should let it go.

Actually the cell is overkill for bluray playback purposes only.
Hmm .. if that's the case, at some point I probably will get a standalone (when my TV is good enough for me to see the difference) ...

Also, bring on Profile 3 players with DSD --> analogue (no LPCM conversion). That's something PS3 can't do.

Older people are afraid of the ps3... simple as that.
I'm so glad you qualified your opinion. I'm well into my 50s and the PS3 doesn't scare me in the slightest.

Exactly. We're just killing ourselves.. not the Earth. The Earth is only 1/4 of its way through its life cycle... which is the sun's life cycle. Dinosaurs, humans, etc. could die and evolve another 3 times before the Earth dies.

Mama Earth will be fine... but we won't.

Not bashing Cnet.
Just stating that J6P has an opinion.

In reality, most people have thier own personal opinion to begin with. If such a reviewer doesn't meet thier fancy they are relegated as bias, inaccurate so on so on.

More times than not a person will consider a reviewer good if they happen to agree with them the majority of the times.. if not well.. you see your answers .

CNet is huge, HiDefDigest likes HD-DVD.. so on and so on.. I suppose HiDefDigest has not anything good to say for the mere simple fact they happen to give HD-DVD so many good reviews.

Hi,...

I picked up a PS3 at launch and while I wasn't "afraid" of it.. I certainly felt like I wasn't even sure about what it could do. It's mysterious.

In fact,.. they may add more capabilities to it via future FirmWare upgrade and again change it's abilities.

When I got mine ... it didn't upconvert DVD's but it does now. (Just for an example of how a FW update changed the abilities.) Media server capabilites were also added via FW. In some places (UK) they added digital DVR capabilities and I understand movie rentals via PS Store will be added soon as well. If you think you know what a PS3 can do ... it's still possible they will add to what it can do next week.
