im still skeptical about the 256 player thing. sure, its an amazing accomplishment and its something for sony to hang their hat on (which they already have), but thats just such a huge number of players in one game. it takes away from the intimacy of online matches. grudge kills would become practically obsolete.

i usually dont like playing in games larger than 16 to be honest. i know thats just me, but thats all im speaking too.

This could be interesting, but it could also get unwieldy. Maybe 2-4 armies made up of 8 man squads, where communication between squads is through "radiomen". Have one member of each sqad able to toggle between squad/company level communication, then relay "orders" for the sqad. Could really add to a game of capture the flag.

Bluetooth headsets would be an absolute must.

I always thought it would work in kind of like staging areas... You would have one battle going on maybe 16vs16 or something in say zone 1 (team 1a vs team 2a), and neither team can move to zone 2 until one of the teams is eliminated. Once a team wins they move into zone 2 which is already occupied by team 1b vs team 2b. The winning team joins the other part of their larger team in the second zone and so on, and it would be something like Battlefield Bad Company online where you are fighting to take ground.

Just my thoughts.

yeah so think how crappy it will be when half the team doesnt have headsets .. socom at present is a strategic game requiring good communiocation among the team to win games yet you go into games and there are still a lot of people who dont use headsets ...

BTW FPS ?? ill pass unless something mindblowing comes out of this game ( and no 256 people doesnt really do it for me ) ... why zipper you were just starting to hit your stride in TPS and now you change >?!!???!

MAG to offer "deeper" multiplayer than CoD
The PS3's upcoming online FPS MAG will offer a "deeper" multiplayer experience than the current king of online shooters Call of Duty Modern Warfare, according to developer Zipper Interactive

"Call of Duty is a great franchise, and we expect them to continue to make great shooters," Zipper Interactive's Tony Iuppa told us. "What really sets MAG apart from COD and other shooters on the market, however, is our multiplayer focus."

"MAG is 100% multiplayer and has been since day one," he added. "This has let us spend all of our development resources on creating a deeper MP experience, which supports tight shooter gameplay seen in games like COD, but that’s just the foundation of our offering."

Iuppa went on to say that MAG's variety and multiplayer focus will offer an experience that is unique across all consoles.

"The amount of gameplay variety in MAG, the depth of our skills and gear, the Shadow War (the ongoing tournaments between factions), and strong community tools all create an extremely rich MP environment, one we believe is truly unique on the consoles," he said.

Check out Play magazine, on sale next week, for the huge MAG preview. We'll be running the full interview with Tony Iuppa on the 16th.

im guessing he meant that tons of games have claimed to have better mp than cod4. its debatable if any have yet, personally i dont think any fps has reached the mp of cod4 yet not even kz2, i know a lot of people will disagree with me there.

It has to balance. COD4 is my current favorite shooter but, I find COD4 to be strictly a "as soon as i spawn, throw my granades in a random direction, then run fast as i can trying not to get shot" type of game. and the spawning is horrible! dont get me started on that. the maps need to be bigger. thats why COD4 requires 0 tactics.

If they have more customisation, online progression, more weapons and equipment etc then why not shout about it? They're not saying it's a better game, only we can judge that. They obviously should think their game will be better.

My avatar is what appears to be a logo for one of MAG's factions.

im worried these maps r going to either be so huge it will take a while just to get to the fight or it wont be big enough and with 256 people that can cause a problem. i hope they can get the size just right and put all the rest of my worries to rest. im interested in it be but im afraid theyll just rely on 256 players in a match as a selling point. r2 hoped just having 60 players in its multiplayer would make it good and id say r2 competitive mp is just a mess.

If it supports air transport(which it appears it does) the map size should be that big of an issue. but just thinking it would be sweet as hell like that. one of your squads is taking heavy fire and then a reinforcement squad comes parachuting in! OMG, i cant handle the awesomeness

R2 has gotten better. When it first came out it was all the guys who thought they could play because they were decent at CoD4. What happened was everyone and their grandma rushed to the center and threw every grenade type imaginable at each other. Now it's better. The GOOD CoD players play, and it not as noobish. Still not amazing though.
