Has anyone's copy of the Supermarionation boxset arrived yet ?
Mine was shipped by courier (Network's words to justify £3.60 delivery fee) on Tuesday but still not arrived. Network did not say who is delivering this, but presume its someone like Yodel or Hermes given 3 days and still not arrived.

Could be a case of the packages have been given to the courier with instructions not to deliver until release or the dispatch email was a mistake and sent out automatically when the order was processed (this happened with my last BBC Shop order)

Watched both at the cinema last weekend. Great fun, the documentary is very good, though sadly doesn't cover the 90s resurgence - it just covers the forming of the company and the making of the shows, thus ending with The Secret Service. It's not a fluff piece though, it does touch on difficulties faced, what didn't work and how tough Anderson could be to work with at times.

The episodes all looked absolutely fantastic in This is Supermarionation. Thunderbrids especially, though that could just be my love of the show talking. Rich, filmic colours. Just beautiful to see. And the structure of the showcase, with the vintage commercials, is great fun.

Received my standard edition double pack today. PCM audio but of importance to potential US buyers, the discs are 50i.

That is surprising, thought the documentary might be 50hz but was expecting the episodes to be 24fps.

I just got mine today. It's a very impressive package, the book and booksleeve alone weigh over 4 pounds. For anyone interested in the book I would say it alone is worth about $60.00. Don't know if it's exclusive to this set (don't see it selling anywhere else), but it's about 340 pages on high quality paper with very thick binding and even has a page marker ribbon. The sleeve is equally thick (1/8"). The 2009 edition sold on Amazon is in paperback and has only 208 pages. It sells for over $30.

Anyway that's what impressed me upon receiving it. The comic book is pretty cool too. Glad I paid the extra coin to get this.

So glad for you, sounds like something I would enjoy thoroughly b/c I'm a huge Gerry Anderson fan.

I wished it would have been a little less pricey...I did order this though:

Network have now released the HD21 discs separately, before they were only available as part of the £100 Supermarionation set...

Yowch, that's still a chunky price though. If it's half that then I'd bite.

I thought for over 6 hours of content it was pretty good, a 2 hour film costs £13-15 after all.

The original £80 for the boxset is starting to look less of a good deal and the current £100 will appeal to nobody now that HD21 is available on its own aswell as the hardcover version of the book.

I wonder why Network chose to release these at 1080i?

Space 1999 and the new Bringers of Wonder are all 1080p. Its not something I saw mentioned until I noticed it when playing . Might cause problems for US buyers

Someone contacted Network regarding the content being 1080i and this is the response they received...

Quote:
The documentary was made at 25 fps as all the shows were first broadcast,
and have always been seen at 25 fps. Blu Ray doesn’t support 25P, so this
displays as 50i. It could accurately be described as 25P or 50I and
therefore 1080i or 1080p are both correct. The resolution is full HD
1920x1080.

Kind regards,
Network
So basically because the documentary was shot at 25p they also restored the episodes at that standard which seems like an odd decision to me but I guess it made incorporating the content into the documentary easier.

Hopefully if they ever do release full series sets they will be presented in the correct 1080p/24hz.

I read it as the Supermarionation titles were made for TV so even though filmed on 35mm, not sure if the film speed was 24 or 25 when recorded, they have always been broadcast on TV at 50i which is equivalent to a 25p, hence why they have used the faster speed on these BDs.

They were shot at 24fps, they mention this in the documentary plus the ITV BD release and Japanese BD release of Thunderbirds are both 1080p/24hz so it was solely Network's doing and their reason doesn't make much sense as they had no issue releasing Space 1999 and The Prisoner in 1080p/24hz yet all UK airings of both of them have also always been 50hz.
