, I actually stopped the movie and checked my speaker settings. There was virtually nothing coming out of the rear speakers. It seemed to be like that through the entire film. The first time I actually noticed anything significant coming out of the rear speakers was at the end of the movie

. That was the only thing that stuck out at me. I was overall pretty disappointed with the AQ.

Hmm, I thought some of the scenes at the beginning made pretty good use of the surrounds.

[Show spoiler]During the t-storm, when you first see him painting and hear the storm it's front only but after that and especially with them looking out the window at the storm, I hear it all around me

. That was probably one of my favorite scenes. I thought it looked great and sounded great. Also,

[Show spoiler]when they're driving to the store and the military is going the other way, there was a nice transition (pan) of the sound making use of the rears. Traffic in general, I thought sounded pretty good

[Show spoiler]earthquake scene in the store didn't make quite as much use of them as I expected but I could hear stuff hitting the floor/crashing behind me during that

. Anyway, I thought the sound was pretty good at the beginning and great at the end. In the middle when they're

[Show spoiler]trying to be quiet, figure out what is going on, etc. it gets pretty quiet -- and that's also when my sub turned off. I do think it could have been spookier with better use of the surrounds though. It didn't have quite as much "atmosphere" as I expected in that regard but I think a large part of that was just me since I kept trying to compare it to "The Fog (1980 version)"
