If it is due to soundproofing, you might need to patch up a whole wall of these, - you might also need bass traps to keep LFEs from escaping next door, lol. Apartment living? What happened to your Panny 30?

Looks awesome. Everytime i see B&W's i fall in love. I know your feeling about bad architects, my townhouse was definatley not made for HT purposes in my living room, i made de but eventually turned my office into a dedicated HT.

That is a bit problem with apartment living. Every apartment I would go into the first thing I would do is look at the living room and think how can I setup my stereo here. And that was just trying to find a location that I could properly place 2 stereo speakers for proper music listening. I hardly ever considered or cared about HT until recently. So now it must be a nightmare.

I envy those that have a house with a basement or where they can dedicate a room for this hobby.

Thanks JJ for the thread of going through this process.

Can you hear them enough, behind the "couch" like that? I would think all the sound is going into(and being absorbed) by it?

Oh, of course, lol. I'm tall. I can still hear the sound coming out of them when my tall ol' self's head is well over the couch. Angling them a bit right at my ears helps, too. But I did try the other way, and found them too overpowering. Heck right now I'm hearing surround effects I've never heard before!

I forgot to say I'm finally running it through its paces - starting off with my DD-EX and DTS-ES DVDs, though - podracing in Ep.I, the Death Star attack on Ep. IV, the T-Rex scene in Jurassic Park, the opening attack from War of the Worlds (ohhhh those LFEs...ohhh man), the Battle of Pelennor Fields from LOTR:RTK, the Colosseum scene in Gladiator...and now the Battle of the Heroes scene in Ep. III.

I know some find Philips' Ambilight feature nothing but a gimmick, but I've found I can't live without it (I can live with the gray bars! ) - I don't see myself upgrading my TV anytime soon (next video upgrade is a projector) - and if you can imagine this scene with the bursting red lava, blue lightsabers flashing, John Williams' powerful score filling the room and each lightsaber swoosh eminating from the subwoofer...I mean, I'm in heaven right now. It's so clear and distinct. I'm shedding a tear here.

I can't wait to get started on the Blu-rays.

One thing you should try, (and i wish i could try) is the robot attack scene at the beginning of Transformer. I just love the sound effects from that scene.

I'll be getting the HT-AS720 from Samsung around Christmas, i'm in a 4 1/2 so i don't want to spend the big buck for a system i'm going to change in a few years, for i 500$ budget i think the AS720 will seal the deal. So i will experience good sound in a few months

Great setup! How much was it ? ($$$)

I was running a HT-TX75 from Samsung that I got on Christmas of '07! Served me well running optical...and for its price, check page 4 of this thread, post #78...I'm keeping it on the hush-hush...

And thanks Lou, I've always admired your Star Wars stuff,

I have no idea why Amazon has them at $2,000 - heck, even Sound Advice/Tweeter has them at $1400. You might be able to haggle down to $1200. But I'm not too knowledgeable, honestly, about Pioneer Elite receivers - in my receiver search, they were never in consideration. When I had a $2k budget, I was thinking Onkyo/Yamaha - then when I increased it, I moved on up to Denon/Marantz. But I drool for the new '08 Rotels...

You haven't watched a Blu-Ray yet?!?!?!?!?!?!?

How does it all sound? Is there anything you are overly pleased, satisfied, displeased with?

No Blu-rays yet! lol. Just going crazy on the DVDs.

Overly pleased with the Dynamo. It is rocking my world. I didn't know bass until I heard the Dynamo in my own living room for the first time. All I ever knew was a one-note HTiB. I'm feeling bass I've never felt before in some scenes. It's beautiful, honestly, and it's not even broken in yet.

The Monitor 50s are solid as rears, overkill, even, they do their job beautifully.

The Marantz, despite its antiquated GUI, is surprisingly easy to use! No problems with it there. The remote learns very well.

The B&Ws. Well then. Where do I begin. If on DVDs I'm left lovingly speechless - I don't even want to start when I watch Blu-rays. I'm saving those for tomorrow...

I have no complaints. I had a bit of a crackly sound coming out of my center channel - particularly doing low frequency (i.e., the Death Star exploding) - but I rewired and reconnected it and it went away. Don't know what I did wrong there... But all is good now. Maybe I should set it to "Small" since the Audyssey set-up set it to "Large." So many things to tinker with, honestly! Tweaking is the fun part, though.

Cloverfield, Cars, 300 are first on the list...Black Hawk Down, Pirates, Pearl Harbor...Harry Potter 3,5...X-Men 3, Day After Tomorrow...all these excellent sonic titles! Sunshine, Transformers...ahhh! And I have so many errands and 4 hours of classes tomorrow. It'll be crazy if I can make time to do all of these!

By the way , those phillips back light are very nice, i didn't think i needed them either until i saw them at my friends house and i immediately saw that it was something i would be interested down the line. Once i finally move out of this apartment it's definitely a buy for me
