If you check the LOTR website it clearly states that PJ is working on the LOTR Blu Rays personally, keep in mind this is from ages ago back when the red camp still had that little glimmer in there eyes

WHEN IS THE LORD OF THE RINGS GOING TO BE RELEASED IN HIGH DEFINITION (EITHER HD-DVD OR BLU-RAY)?
The high definition formats that have recently launched offer exceptional picture and sound quality in addition to new interactive bonus feature capabilities. New Line Home Entertainment is committed to the high definition format and is very excited about the idea of releasing the Trilogy in the format. However, New Line is also committed to maximizing the capabilities of the technology to deliver a cutting edge high definition experience. This will take more time as well as the participation of the filmmakers to achieve. It is currently not scheduled for release until, at the earliest, 2008.

Hopefully they will release them in a set like they did with Harry Potter. Extended editions would be great, seamless branching with both versions even better. If it takes 2 discs for each movie, so be it, as long as PQ/AQ is top notch. That's all I really care about. If the theatrical versions come out, It might be a rent, but I would probibly buy them instead once push came to shove.

As for the LOTR Blu releases, WB/NL can stuff the theatrical releases up where the sun don't shine. I will only accept the extended cuts of the films. The theatrical releases were all right in the theater but after watching the extended cut version I just cannot go back to the normal cuts. So no double dipping for me. Extended cuts ONLY.
Welcome and I agree. I am sick of the planned double dips.

Question What part are you confused about???

I can tell you that it started a few years ago when some friends and I were looking for an appropriate movie to watch after the usual parade on Memorial Day, and I sugested LOTR (it is the story of the 'War of the Ring'). We watched it and thought it was better than watching yet another WWII, or (American) Civil, or Revolutinary War movie each year, so we decided to make it a tradition. We had been watching the LOTR movies each December (the debut month of all the theatrical releases) but swiched it to Memorial day (after the local parade) and have never looked back. I'm just hoping they get all 3 movies out on Blu-ray by Memorial Day this year.

I am starting to feel the same about these films as I do Star Wars—indifferent. Unless they appear in their extended versions in a set similar to The Matrix Trilogy I will pass. If Warner insists on releasing more titles in that crappy digibook format, I will simply buy the imports when available.

I have the DVD extended version for all three LOTR movies. Those are really a pain in the butt for having to get off your butt to flip them over before you can watch the rest of the movie. Nevertheless, although I enjoyed the theatrical version in the theaters, I enjoyed the extended versions at home even more. I love the extended portions of Tree Beard in the Two Towers.

If the BD releases don't offer the extended version, I'm not going to buy them. If I know the studios, they'll release the extended version sooner or later. I'll just wait for it.

I think the extended films will be released, granted it's wishful thinking, it would only make sense. Peter Jackson has gone on record saying that he has been taking his time with the release of these movies on blu so they could be perfected. I was thinking that his words applied to the extended cuts.

In response to the previous post, for me I am the opposite in regards to Star Wars. I just want the original eps of IV, V, and VI period.

I will buy them only if they are the extended cuts. I hope Warner does a double disk for each movie both with the extended cut as well as the theatrical release with 7.1 sound. This would be there best chance to salvage their reputation. Also no lousy digibooks for me

Just did a search on this site, NOPE,.. Zero Warner movies with 7.1ch audio (so far) but even though Warner owns New Line (and has for years) the LOTR movies are New Line movies, and New Line has released a high percentage of their movies on Blu-ray with 7.1ch audio. So I guess we will just have to hope for the best (and ping Warner and New Line frequently about issues we have with video and audio encodes on their Blu-rays).

What I highlighted is exactly what I have questions about. Why don't you just watch all 3 EE's? Why switch back and forth?

OLD NEWS!!!

This has been posted long time ago, PJ allready gave an statement that he will also work on the blu-ray release to make sure the blu-ray version gets the threatment it deserved.

DNR?? not needed for LotR!! Everyone who has the SEE on DVD agree with me that the PQ of those DVDs are on of the best (for DVDs)

There is no question that I will only get the extended editions. They are vastly superior in my opinion. I am an avid Tolkien fan and have read LOTR many times, but I also like everything else as well. The addition of the Mouth of Sauron alone makes me only choose the extended versions. If they are theatrical only, I won't be getting them.

why so many hostility against warner. Many reviews from sites of warner titles have recieved 4.5 or 5 stars for Audio and PQ. So are there many picky ones on this board. Also the PCM and TrueHD deal. We all know they are completely the same. Yet some PCM fanatics keep pointing out PCM is better. And that is not true because they are the same. Also all studios now only use TrueHD so what is the problem

The complaint is that they are not using the lossless track. PCM Vs TrueHD is irrelevent if they don't use either. Also, not all studios use trueHD, Fox and Universal use DTS-MA.

i will b i line when these come out. i hav ALL HDTV's and LOTR looks insane and i know on blu it will look that much better. as far as sound on dvd PJ recorded it at -4. which is very LOUD for dvd when all other movies are done at -7 to -6. but PJ also did a THX type EQ and it's awsome. but i wonder how it would sound in lossy and will it b that much clearer.....

They could probably add a menu/option on the Blu disc to play either the extended or the theatrical version. Disney did it with the Lion King and that was only a DVD. And being that there is so much more room on a Blu i think it could be possible.
