Technically, it was the first cut. From it, Romero's 126 minute Director's Cut (known as the theatrical edition) was created, while Argento's cut bore little resemblense to either Romero cut in many scenes.
Anyways, point was that the long cut was actually an early rough cut, not some final assembled Director's Cut in any way. Even most of the music is temp score (including some bits also found in Monty Python & the Holy Grail). |

The Crow City Of Angels (they slaughtered this movie cutting over 40 minutes of alternate scenes/ending/plot to make it more pg-13 ish and more like the original) The director hated the version they released.
and Nightbreed Director's Cut of course. ![]() |

Leon (The Professional cut) which up till now seems to have escaped UK release.
Payback (The totally re-edited version with different plot; practically a different film, its called Payback: Straight Up). Again, another film which was released on DVD and Blu in the US, but not in the UK. Superman II (Richard Donner cut) Another disc which doesnt exist in the UK. I dont understand why there is such a slooooooooow takeup of films onto Blu here in the UK. The same problem exists with Battle of the Buldge Blu, Fifth Element, and a few others. If I could rate all UK releases for being on par with the US, I'd give it a 0/5. Theres too many to mention. Last edited by Alkali; 10-28-2008 at 12:49 PM. |

Of already released titles:
Extended Independence Day - I really like the extra stuff Theatrical Stargate - Don't like the extra stuff as much Theatrical 1408 Extended Lion, Witch, Wardrobe Extended Punisher Theatrical Payback Extended Terminator 2 Extended Fantastic 4 and Extended Mr. and Mrs Smith (Don't really care about the extended releases as much as I just want better releases for both) For Unreleased titles: Theatrical Star Wars (I will still buy whatever comes out though) Extended LOTR Recut Sin City Aliens Directors Cut (It's Aliens that has a proper director's cut right? all others are not the directors preferred versions if I remember correctly) Last edited by bajor27; 10-29-2008 at 12:03 PM. |

The Magnificent Ambersons
Greed Those are pure "fantasy" wishes, of course, since the footage that was cut from both was destroyed. On the other hand, we have most of the missing footage from Metropolis on its way to Blu-Ray courtesy Kino, so miracles can happen! Ambersons may just be the single biggest Holy Grail in movie history . . . I would also like to see both the theatrical and extended versions of The Abyss released in one set. (It would require two seperate discs, since the movie is sufficiently altered that I do not think it would work via seamless branching.) Someone mentioned Clive Barker's Nightbreed, and I would like to add his director's cut of Lord of Illusions to that list. I saw the disappointing theatrical version when it was first released, and the director's cut (which is a true "director's cut", not just a studio-reworked "extended edition" like most of the Ridley Scott movies like Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, and Alien) is vastly superior. |

Get the UK version. Extended cut and DTS-MA sound.
Well, in the case of both Alien and Aliens, both cuts were Director supervised and approved. However, Ridley Scott is adamant that the theatrical cut is his preferred cut, whereas Cameron stands by both cuts. The longer version was referred to as a "director's cut" on laserdisc, but every DVD version has been named "special edition cut", presumably at Cameron's request, so as not to diminish the validity of the theatrical cut. |
