Default Pierce, the worst

Pierce Bronson was the worst bond by far. Lets face it... he is old, unfit, and shyte actor and his bond films were garbage. He brought too much of an american feel to the flick which took away entirely from the purpose of 007. In the end, he couldn't kick a midgets ass.

Roger Moore was slick and typical british.

Sean Connery... can do no wrong. But, his bond films are just to old to watch over and over (even on HD)

Timothy Dalton- another poor choice... however, I believe License to Kill was a good movie with some other good actors.

.. and Daniel Craig... re-defining the James Bond character as did Connery (brains, witt, comedy, coolness, fitness, attitude, and good movie scripts).

Seriously they all have their good points.

Pierce Brosnan was made for the role, but he was landed with the crappiest stories in the entire Bond universe. If he'd had good stories, it may have been a different story.

Lazenby - I love OHMSS. I ignored it my whole life and finally saw it last year. It is sooo underrated.

Dalton - His movies are solid.

Moore - Smooth, and I appreciate his sense of humor and style.

Connery - Legend, and defined the role for the first gen.

I agree with your Brosnan comment. I definitely felt like he fit the "role" the best but the stories were horrible. Connery and Craig are my favorite.

I don't get the Brosnan hate? In fact one could argue he rescued the franchise.

While Dalton is my favorite Bond, by the time LICENCE TO KILL came about, I don't think there was much excitement about Bond as before and the producers stupidly pit it against all the summer movies that year, no wonder it wasn't as successful. Then there was the lawsuit and we didn't see Bond for over 5 years, which is an eternity in the movie business.

Though I hated to see Dalton go, Brosnan was the right man at the right time with the right story in GOLDENEYE. Yes, it had another laser in space, but it also had a compelling villian and a interesting plot twist. In fact the storyline probably has the most engaging interaction between Bond and the villian. Brosnan brought the coolness factor we all were accustomed to in Bond.

Now as far as his other movies, they can certainly be put up for debate, but I see little debate in his effectiveness as Bond, and I admit to be disappointed in the producer's handling of Brosnan.

Having said that, I much prefer the harder, more realistic tone of the franchise now and feel it's on a much better path and though I had various concerns about Craig, he's certainly the right Bond for this generation.

thedigitalbits.com is reporting that Moonraker will be the Moore title instead of SWLM. Yeeech. Moonraker is IMHO the worst of the Bond films.

Spy... have lots of problems on the HD master, mostly excessive use of EE, so it's fair they replace it with Moonraker, they probably don't want any backlash on those Blu discs, and the first wave was perfection.

they wanted Brosnan to be bond back when dalton got the role but he couldnt get out of his remington steel contract obligations at the time...

i wonder what he would have been like back then as bond?

Perfect analysis! I concur with all that.

I was really hoping for TLD and OHMSS. We will probably get QoS at the same time
Goldfinger
Goldeneye
And
Diamonds are Forever

I am only getting Connery/Craig/ and Goldeneye right now.

no, this is not perfect analysis as the member above mentioned. I love how you said he was old but Craig was about the same age when he did CR as when Brosnan did GoldenEye (only four years difference i think, which is not that much when he was 42 and Craig was 38).

Secondly, like others have said, Brosnan DID bring back the Bond franchise. I was never a big fan of Licence to Kill but thought the plotline was ok for historical events that were happening at the time of the movie. However, just like Judi Dench said in GoldenEye, "You are a relic of the Cold War." This, in my opinion, was very true of Bond and the franchise itself. Once the Cold War ended when the Berlin Wall fell, Bond seemed to have lost his background, in a way. A major point of those movies and books was because of the threat of nuclear attack by Communist nations and the power that the Soviet Union was building all throughout the mid-20th century. The whole Bond story seemed to be so people could see that there were still heroes out there that helped them from maniacal villains (no matter how insane they were in those movies/books). Once the Cold War ended, I felt that are fight against the Soviets, the threat of nuclear war, and the need for a hero to combat it was no more. But with GoldenEye, Pierce brought a Bond that seemed just as suave and sophisticated as the original, but with new plots (in this case a secret organization working with the KGB). Granted, some of the plot lines of those other JB films were a little lackluster, but he did do the best he could with the story he was given.

Without Pierce, I don't see a way that we would have Daniel Craig right now, because a 17 year hiatus between Licence to Kill and Casino Royale may have been too much of a gap for production companies to think that Bond could be resurrected. Regardless if you think Brosnan is a bad actor, which he most certainly IS NOT, you have to give him the credit he deserves because without his Bond movies, I think the franchise would have retired with LTK

Are you sure about that? I know the last DVD release of SWLM was utter crap, but I always thought that the EE was introduces in the compression mastering, not the Lowrey 4k remastering.

I could be wrong, but I always took the faults on the remasters to be the work of poor compression.

Actually, that would be 4 Roger Moore and 1 of each of the others.

And I agree that they could have been spread out better. But again, it's not like they run the risk of not getting released; we know that Fox/MGM will release these soon after. It'll just take a little more patience.
