No, you're right. The movie theater experience can't be replicated at home by 98% of the population. We can come close, but it just cannot be done. And that's fine, IMHO.

I hate going to the theaters for all the reasons that have been mentioned (loud, rude, obnoxious people, etc) but hearing strangers laughing at the same parts I do simply can't be replicated at all. I'll still go to the theater now and then, especially when the kids are older. But that will be for them, not for me. I haven't been in over 5 years, and there hasn't been a film in that time where I need to see it in a theater and wouldn't be happier watching it at home--and yes, I know what movies have been released in the past 5 years

Personally, I would rather sit in my own home with *my* distractions, rather than subject myself to the distractions that others thrust upon me.

well that is your opinion, yes sometimes it is nice to have hundreds of people, but once I was at the theatre (packed) and the person in front of me did not know enough English and all through the movie was asking the friend what they where saying. Yes it was one time (luckily) but how can you have a good experience when that happens? there are movies like the Rocky horror picture show, where the interaction is important, but for most movies the experience is the same if you are 1, 20 (the max I have had in my HT) or 200in the end I want to get engrossed in the movie and yes in a comedy more laughter in the right parts does not detract from it, but everything else (and there is always a bit of something else) does.
