Most I think on here are against streaming and prefer a hard copy although I guess us Blu-ray buyers are in the minority, personally speaking I love my discs and have no interest in streaming.....the quality isn't the same and at least until then I won't even entertain the idea.

Maybe killed was a poor choice of words but based on the numbers hasn't streaming/digital already taken the lead in both movie and audio? The future is streaming/downloading unless something even more convenient comes along.

We are quickly becoming the minority. The CD and the DVD will likely remain an option for many years but Blu-ray will never take the lead and we wont likely see any newer physical media any time soon.

The general consumer cares little about the benefits that CD's and BD's offer. In my circle of family and friends I cant name a person other than myself who buys music CD's other than myself.

I don't know about sales, but all new catalog reissues and archival titles seem to be released in blu-ray only. I think physical media is here to stay as a segment, and blu-ray will eventually kill DVD because of people getting high-def, large screens.

The only thing making it seem to be slow-going is Joe Bob at Walmart who can barely tell what he's buying and has learned the letters "DVD" as if they were synonymous with "movie." These are the same folks who were buying "full screen" for so long.

I think there will be no new popular standards for a while, and blu-ray will have the field for the next 10 years. It only makes sense during that time that DVD's will recede.

What numbers? Are you an industry person? I would love to know where everyone is getting their "information" from?

no, in movies it is not even close (digital is but a drop in the bucket), in audio (music) after well over a decade, in the US digital has a very slight edge but internationally CD is still king and going strong.
