I have that and it has helped. Just haven't been home much lately, busy time time at work during the summer. Hopefully I will be home in a week or so I can play with the settings. Plus I have spent some cash lately and I want to enjoy it. Also would like to clean up some wires and post some pics. My system is pretty simple byt coming together well. Upgrade a couple more speakers and I will be happy.
Your welcome sir! I'm glad I was able to help. We all look forward to seeing your pics, this forum loves pictures.

I want to get some better speakers for my bedroom. The ones I am using now are from a HTiB, but they do sound good and that's the reason I havn't rushed out and gotten some new ones. I also built my own subwoofer.

I am very happy with my AVR 788 for a year and a half. I am saving to upgrade to another Denon. Can do without Audessy.

I got my 4310 today and have it all set up. I am stepping up from the 2309ci. I am issue free so far. Movies and music sound great. The new GUI is awesome and very user friendly IMO. I love what multieqXT did for my sound. I ran it in all 8 positions. Audyssey set everything to small, with 40hz crossovers on the fronts and center, and 80hz on the rears. I changed them to 60hz on the fronts and 80hz on the center. The bass manager before start is a nice touch. According to audyssey I was about 8db hot which is interesting because I thought I had it close before. My 2309 only had the 6 position setup and I never felt like it did a good enough job, I always had to fiddle channel levels and it never felt quite right. My bass and overall soundstage is very much improved. It feels "seamless" now and I really feel like I have the 360 degree effect. It plays well with my Comcast cable box as well. I have a PS2 and PS3 connected too, no issues with those either.

I like the remote with this unit much better than the 2309 remote. I have not updated the firmware yet and for now I don't know that I "need" to, so I will probably just leave it alone until a later date. This was a very worthy upgrade from 2309.

All in all I am very pleased with it. More impressions to come, possible a mini review as well.

Two thumbs up from me

Anyone have any issue running HDMI and Toslink from a PS3 to a Denon 3808 or similar model?

I was trying some stuff with my PS3 so I can attempt to play my DTS encoded WAV files. The problem is that the PS3 converts them to 48kHz from their native 44.1kHz. I read (and I cannot find the site) where the TosLink connection can stream them correctly. It had something to do with the HDMI in the PS3.

Anyway, I changed the audio to Digital in the PS3. I have light coming through the fiber. But no sound coming through the Denon. I did change the settings for my PS3 setting to HDMI 2 and Toslink 2.

Am I missing a setting somewhere?

In the Denon menu for PS3, set the HDMI to NO and set the optical to the appropriate input number. In PS3, set the output to Optical. Hopefully, this will take care of the problem.

DOH! That was my issue. I had BOTH optical and HDMI selected.

Thanks, BD! We can always count on you for the answer.

UPDATE:

I turned off the HDMI and just left Digital Optical but I lost my video.

I'm at a loss. I guess I cannot run the HDMI (for video) and Optical (for audio) to my receiver at the same time.

Couldn't you assign the Optical input to the HDMI so you could get the video and the audio?

That's not possible. There's no way to create an activity that combines HDMI with another type of input. The receiver expects both audio and video from the same input when it comes to HDMI.

louhamilton, Have you got it fixed yet? Look on page 40 of the 3808 manual.

got a 3808, very very happy with it. I bought it 1 month after their launch and i'am happy to see that Denon is still doing FW update on it even if the product is officially 'dead' (because of the new model). They release FW 2.04 a week ago

Just wanted to say I've had my AVR790 set-up a couple weeks now and love it. Had a friend over and demo'd Master & Commander....when the guys up on deck run over-head, it sounds like there are people on my roof!!

Anyone trying the 5.1 + Front Heights? I've been very pleased with it...DPLIIz...love that we have yet another set of letters to keep in mind.

I haven't tried the 7.1 (with Back Surrounds) yet. After reading some reviews comparing Back Surrounds vs. Front Heights, decided to go with the heights first. I can certainly hear them!!

I have had a 3808CI for a while now and it is the best I have owned. Upgrade was from a 1700 series Denon with no HDMI. I have my HDMI scaling set to off. Is anyone using theirs to upconvert?

Nope. Total pass through on my 3808, as well.
