Limited edition doesn't have to mean exclusive to a specific retailer, it could also mean a limited production run, and when those are sold, they will just produce a regular version, hence "limited edition".

It's limited in quantity. I included Future Shop in the title, because only FS has lowered the price. It's still $35 at Best Buy and HMV

Exactly my point, I was saying that just because Amazon is selling it too, doesn't mean it isn't Limited, as ran94 was claiming.

I respect that people want the collectibles and the steel cases. My preference would be a plain case and lower price. I'd also rather they focus on enriching the disc contents and making sure corners aren't being cut with the sound and picture quality. To me, that is money better spent than case and chotchki development.
As to the debate about the definition of the word limited... What's he's talking about is the history with regards to the steelbook cases. Back in the day when they sold in low volumes through Future Shop, the quantity was quite limited and that created a resale market where Steelbook packages could be sold at crazy prices to US collectors. Personally I don't agree with this practice, but it helps to know the history. Now that Amazon has been carrying them, the overall availability of these packages is increased, which has stunted the ability of opportunists to flip them for a profit. That is the context for why someone would say they are more limited or less limited under the current system. |

If someone wants to pay for a steelbook, let 'em. i don't see a problem with it. for all BDs released there's a group of day 1 buyers and there's a group that's willing to wait 6 months before it drops 10-15 bucks. all about preference

I'd be more excited about the release in general because it's one of my Fav films of all time, except it got a horrible video review here, 3.5 stars. They didn't bother remastering it at all. And that the '32 "Scarface" wasn't remastered either, in high def or even SDVD (I'm sure it's the same quality DVD they came out with like ten years ago!) It may be "just a catalogue title" to a lot of you but it's reached cult level status for a lot of people, on top of it being still beloved in the rap/hip-hop community.
I'll get it when it hits 15 bucks, but I wouldn't be surprised if it gets a full restoration within 5 years |

I'll take your bet and say that they won't do another restoration within 5 years. After almost 30 years this is what they've provided, and this release will deliver the bulk of its blu-ray sales. A restoration in say 3 years would only yieled a tiny amount of incremental sales from people wanting to upgrade, so your prediction seems unlikely. I'd welcome it, but just doesn't seem likely. |

@Neild, how is that a slur? It IS beloved in that culture. Have you seen MTV Cribs? There's Scarface posters in virtually every house! Why do you even see that as a negative or an insult? I'm not implying it is. In fact I was using that observation to say that that was another good reason for the studio to do a full restoration...you need help dude

We'll have to wait a few years to see if "those" people have enough influence for the video remaster you are predicting. I still believe the current remaster is what we'll have for many years. Also just noticed the humidor package is on sale for $552. Last edited by Neild; 09-06-2011 at 01:08 AM. |

Anyone pick up Scarface today? I did
![]() [Show spoiler] Unfortunately, my DVD has a "coffee stain" on the back, but it seems like there's a 50/50 chance that any DVD will end up like that. About half of my DVDs have them (I've taken very good care, btw), but they all play fine, so I'm not worried. Does anyone know what causes this? Just out of curiosity ![]() EDIT: Apparently the aforementioned problem (on the DVD) is caused by uneven application of the disc lacquer, it's unsightly, but shouldn't be a problem, as the laser can still read the data.
