Dobyblue - thanks for the tip on the Pioneer DV-49 player, I ordered and
just got my DV-49AV on Friday. It looks like it is going to be a great
player for my use. I also purchased a new receiver, not on the high end but
good enough for me, which is a Sony STR-DG1000 Multichannel Receiver. I
have a problem with my HDCP protocol, I think, however and am curious about how the HDMI connections handle the HDCP.

Earlier in the week a pine tree fell on my power lines and tripped the power
off, which may have caused a surge, etc. and I was without power overnight. Now my TV, a Westinghouse TX-42F430S, doesn't work with the HDMI inputs from my Blu-ray, DVR or my new receiver. So far I have not been able to reset the TV to clear this condition so I may be out of luck there.

However I was hoping the DV-49A would play to the receiver even without the HDMI working to the TV by just handshaking with the receiver. That doesn't seem to be the case, the sound came out in spurts. I hooked up my PC monitor with its HDMI input to the receiver and the DV-49A seems to play flawlessly. I have not tried hooking up RCA component cables to the TV to get the video, no video at all through HDMI on any of the HDMI ports the TV has, but I am thinking that will not clear the interrupted sound output
anyway. I was planning to use the HDMI output so I can get the full 7.1 sound when it is present. So does the HDCP signaling have to terminate to
an HDCP compatible monitor/TV to make the DV_49AV work with its HDMI output or is this more likely a shortcoming (feature) of my receiver? I will be
out of town for a few days so if you have a suggestion for a fix I will try it next weekend. Thanks in advance to anyone that has some feedback to my
question.
