Default Other Subwoofers Owners Thread

Please go to the Master List of Subwoofer Owners Thread and post comments about your subwoofer there. Thank you.

Got my Premier Acoustics PA-120 today. Let it return to room temperature from sitting out on the porch all day and then fired it up. Ran it for a bit, then ran Audyssey as I didn't like how it sounded by default. Getting it dialed in now- watched Gone in 60 Seconds, and Eleanor just roared throughout the room. Haven't had much chance to watch anything else due to the fact that my family is in bed.

Thus far, it seems like a very solid sub. I'll post pics soon, but the build quality is good. Piano black finish on top is very nice, and the grille snaps in nicely (though the tabs are plastic). One complaint I have is that the power cord is too blasted short- right now I have it plugged into the wall instead of my power conditioner. I'll have to look into options there or just put up with it.

Sound-wise, it meshes well with my setup with the crossovers set at 80hz. I can tell a large difference from my previous sub, as expected. I haven't run test tones or anything like that (and probably won't unless there's a problem) but overall am pretty happy with the purchase.

For $229 shipped, I feel it's definitely a strong performer in the budget category. It looks nice, is very solid, and seems to perform well thus far. I'll update as I have more to say, but wanted to get some information out there for people that are looking for something that works well on a budget.

Uploading some pics now courtesy of Pakow over at AVS. Hopefully he won't mind as I have rehosted them elsewhere to conserve his bandwidth. He actually took apart his new PA-120 to get an idea of the interior. Again, for a budget sub I think this is pretty decent. Internal bracing, batting and decently-thick MDF:

Thing weighs 56lbs according to one member on AVS, and guesstimating I'd agree- it's definitely more than a salt bag! I'll update later with some of my own pics with it in my current setup. Enjoy and feel free to post your thoughts on the sub since I'm by no means an expert.

I recieved my PA-120 yesterday, but I am moving Saturday and will have to wait till Saturday night or Sunday to hook it up and test it. Over all I was impressed with the size and quality just from looks.

I might try that from the PS3 or something.

Watched a bit of Transformers last night just to check the sub and was pretty happy with it. Then watched LOTR: Return of the King and was pleased overall with the sub's performance. I think I need to work on placement a bit but overall I would say it was a good purchase.

Watching TMNT on blu with my kid now. We're hiding from the arctic weather conditions out today! Water main actually blew at work. Anyway, this is one of our favorites to watch together so I've seen it probably 7x easy. Bass is definitely more pronounced and crisp without being overpowering as compared to my old setup(s). The more I play the more happy I am with my purchase. It's maybe even overkill for my setup (I know some of you with higher-end setups will disagree).

Very pleased with the purchase!

Default Anyone else using a B&W sub?

I know B&W aren't really known for their subs. I could see why when I had my ASW800 that I bought to pair with my Nautilus speakers. When I upgraded to the 802D, the match really was not working for me and I debated what to do. I finally decided to give B&W another try with the updated version of the ASW800--the ASW825. With the upgrade, I went from a paper cone to what B&W calls a Rohacell cone, as well as new electronics, all of which are a better match for my front three speakers. The deep bass was tighter and I could hear detail and "feel" detail and punch better than before. I'm really impressed with these Rohacell cones. Anyone else enjoying them?

Is this sub as big and as heavy as the B&W center channel speaker? I hope you don't mind me asking this question. What is the cost of this sub? If you don't want to answer, it is OK.

With a sub as big as the Epik... do you really even NEED to optomize it for the room?!? (I know they answer is yes but dayum!)

Once I put this big sub on top of the footers (rather than flat on the floor) along with my really good sub cable it helped to reduce any standing waves and it put out a tremendous amount of clean bass that was quite deep and amazingly fast.

Now you are making me jealous. I am going to build a 21" subwoofer pretty soon just to beat you.

This is the Driver I have in mind.

List Price: $1,180.82 EA
Special Price: $781.71

I may have to buy a truck load full of MDF wood to fit this driver.

Not even close. The HTM1D weighs over 200 lbs, has 3 woofers and the heavy midrange/tweeter elliptical unit built onto the top. The ASW825 is the smaller of B&W's two subs in the 800 range. It weighs about 65 lbs.

I think the list price is $2750. I got mine for very little because of a mishap with the shipping, but that's another story. Basically, I got it for less than what the buyer of my ASW800 paid.

It's about time! The ED infomercial was getting to be freakin' old!

My SVS PB13-Ultra will be delivered tomorrow (talked to the freight company today). I'm so stoked!!

I'll be sure to post pics of the wife on the floor after she sees the size of the box.

Nice! At least it's not the cylinder version... Your wife would be on her way to the hospital in that case!

Report back when you stop listening to it for a second

This is my sub, the Epik Conquest which has an 18" driver and a 1000 watt Bash Amp:

I am reluctant to post my system until I move, however, I will be posting my Turntable system shortly, once it is completed.

I think you should keep this sub and build a new one from scratch. Two subwoofers in a room work a lot better in taming the standing waves.
