It's not that I personally don't like the sources, I actually think Hiphopgamer has a few decent "shows" and he does talk sense sometimes, but unfortunately he clearly doesn't have access to insider information so he can't be deemed as credible for rumours.

If someone were to link to Hiphopgamer articles without rumours it wouldn't be a bannable offence, it is his poor record with rumours that puts him on the ban list.

I'll go through the whole bloody list!

VGChartz: Proven wrong on a number of occasions the most recent LBP (Sony announced 1.3m, they had it at 1.75m) and BK:N&B (140k NPD NA, 400k VGC NA).
Playstation Lifestyle: Posted a number of rumours that have failed to materialise, the latest on being Team Bondi going first (or something along those lines) party I seem to remember.
Nexgenwars: Worse than VGChartzz, I mean really, really bad. It is just a ticker which autoupdates every few seconds by a formula.
Hiphopgamer: Missed on too many occasions, latest being the Superbowl commercial.
SurferGirl: Missed on waaaay too many occasions (KH3 to be announced for Wii at TGS, Bioshock series never coming to PS3, Tekken staying exculsive etc...).

Just to add that my other critique is that based on your OP, you wanted to discuss why certain websites should be added/deleted from the ban list and not any of this nonesense about the disciplinary action, which should of been stopped when it first started.

I don't mind the discussion, some of it needed to be said, clarifications about first time offenders and new users were particularly useful.

I will probably lock the thread later on and ask people to PM with suggestions if it continues down this road, but I like to let everyone have their say, it wouldn't be fair otherwise!

Whats sad is they did this to all the fanboy websites so now you have authors from all sorts of the fields posting things...

Sadly its not fully possible to tell if a article was from a ps3fanboy.com writer or from a xboxfanboy.com writer without going back and double checking...

I think this was a terrible choice.. Andrew is still there, im guessing im going to have to create a list of previous authors for my reference...

Oh and we lost Kylie Prymus as he left the staff to start his own.. he was the one posting the "philosony" questions, they were always interesting reads...

I've never watched or read anything from Hiphopgamer, but I wandered into the official playstation forums yesterday, and apparently he's telling people to expect all of Xbox Live's features on the PSN this year, supposedly cross-game invites is testing now. Sounds like something I read here...

Unfortunately the rest of the bullet points for the episode in question sound way too good to be true... I'll not list them here.

Max, didnt you say you were going on a year vacation from being an insider at your job? Then why ban sites for eternity if you will have no true insider knowledge to compare them with? Atleast for a year.

I mean what if they got breaking news thats not on here that is not some "rumor" ... still cant post it?

Your gonna get noobs who will continue to post the stuff, nice warm welcome of a week ban probabaly wont entice them to stick around.

Well that's just bass ackwards! I know the instance I got an infraction for was about someone's set up...... they had something set up really bad and the fellow that I quoted said he didn't know how to say it without sounding like a duck stick so he'd just say it. I quoted him and thanked him for being a duck stick first because I was thinking the exact same thing. I got an infraction for that but we can say SHIT anytime we want? That's pretty messed up..... IMO.

New users will be warned first, so you get one chance to plead ignorance.

It really doesn't matter that I am no longer an insider, it doesn't take insider knowledge to know that the sites/people on the ban list are not credible. All you have to do is look at their record and see whether they are or not.

Yeah, I just had a look, I had no idea that word was banned I know see you next Tuesday is, but that is a very horrible word that I don't use and prefer not to hear.

The word shit isn't that offensive anymore, it has become casualised since the start of the MTV generation!

I wonder if these people defending those unreliable sources also read the same type of tabloid rags that have "Angelina Jolie abducted by aliens" headlines? It's the same principle. These self-proclaimed "journalists" make up some BS stories so people will read it and they can collect advertising dollars. That's it. Posting and/or publishing that garbage is not providing a service that would be considered valuable in any way. I really don't see why anyone would miss it.
