lol...I'm not sure if you saw Fanboys but @ the end of the film they went.."what if it sucks?" lol...that really had me going. It is odd that it did so poorly. Lucas had years to figure it out. The kids love Jar Jar though so...it was for the kids...

I will never forget the disappointment of seeing that film in the theatre

You ain't kidding.

I remember most of the reviews that movie goers were giving to the media while leaving the theaters were saying that it was a MAJOR letdown but you at least need to see the 'podrace' that was in it.

I even remember Letterman ripping that film in it's first week of release too.

The first film is the best and let me tell you why. Because it is the only film that can stand on its own. It has a begining and ends perfectly! It does not need the other films at all. Yes Empire "had the better story maybe" but as I said what it once was is now gone. Not to mention Empire is just the popular choice for the last 15 years or so....

now another subject that I am sure you will balk on is the FACT that of the silly prequels The Phantom Menace is by far the better picture (but the popular misguided choice is Revenge of Hayden). Its has the same pacing and has more "Star Wars" feel than those other two pieces of garbage (called Revenge of Hayden and Attack of Hayden). Yes I know Jar Jar sucks the life out of it but you take away Jar Jar and all that midichlorian junk and give Maul a little more screen time you have a film that would not be silly and at least rival the Return of the Jedi for the third best.

Star Wars (Not a New Hope) we do not recognize that name!
Empire
Jedi

and Phantom (had so much potential)

the other two were bantha poodoo.
Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, Elvis. No need to make a big deal out of things (I hope you've forgotten about the G.I. Joe V. Star Trek escapade )

However, you do have a point. Without Star Wars, it wouldn't have spawned Empire, and the other shitty prequels....

Empire wins by a mile.

The worst would either be the Phantom Menace or Attack of the Clones, too close to call.

I don’t know which one to vote for? Is this for the theatrical true originals or the triple chin tinkered Lucas ones?

Otherwise I’d go Empire but haven’t cast my vote yet.

Just found this on in-70mm

Remembering "Return of the Jedi"

http://www.in70mm.com/news/2008/jedi/index.htm

A print of the film (a 70mm print valued at $10,000) was stolen at gunpoint from the GLENWOOD Theatre in Overland Park, Kansas. The CENTRE Theatre in Salt Lake City, Utah experienced some weather-related damage, prompting its 70mm “Jedi” engagement to be relocated for a two-week period to the REGENCY. An engagement at the CONTINENTAL Theatre in Denver, Colorado was terminated following damage from a fire.

WTF! I guess pyrites will go to any length to steal film prints these days? Same thing happened in the UK with 35mm print that grew a pair of legs and walked out though the door?

This is a tough one, I love both A New Hope and Empire. But Empire wins by a nose.

Are you kidding? All the major critics thought TPM was great! Maltin gave it 4 stars, Ebert gave it 3.5 the same as he gave Revenge. Clones was the worst with most critics giving it 2 stars! TPM got great word of mouth and hell grossed 430 Million dollars...(yes in 1999 dollars) for all you that don't believe in the adjusted system. Grossed alot more than Revenge 6 years later thats for sure.

I never understood the hate people have for Phantom (yea yea, besides Jar Jar I mean). I enjoyed it, it was actually the first of the films I ever saw and what got me interested in seeing the others. Like I said before McGreggor's portrayal of Kenobi and the Qui-Gon Jinn character are definitely the best parts.

The hate for Attack of the Clones I understand.

You're examples may be right but I remember an overwhelmingly negative
word-of-mouth from this film---I do not believe that "most" critics gave it
great reviews. Word of mouth from audiences were mixed at best...

Grossed alot more than Revenge 6 years later thats for sure.
that's because audiences started to stay away after suffering through the
1st 2 prequels!!
