It really has to do with the change in attitudes in general Western culture. Our society has fewer and fewer social outlets for what I would call "inappropriate" language and beliefs. The last refuge where you can say intolerant statements without punishment or consequence is the anonymous online chats.

Yes if you like to mute your entire team, or worse play the guess whos doing it game.. then you have to stop let yourself get killed as you fuddle around to mute that one person or persons and now you have lost the combat advantage as you can no longer communicate with those persons to ask for help or give help.. and now you have a problem...

soo what makes u better than them then if you're just contradicting yourself here? im sure your mother told u 2 wrongs dont make a right.

Anyway i personally dont care for the cursing that goes on in games through mic chats. You can mute in most games out if you dont like what people are saying. Cursing is always gonna be around, so are racist and prejudice people. You cant fight against something you cant see or figure out. So move on its a part of life.

Or just buy a wii..

well, come on now. there is an easy way to avoid the problem at hand. if it takes the whole 15 sec. to see who's mic is chatting and just mute them, then problem solved for the rest of your 100 matches or however many it takes. your never going to stop people from talking junk, its a part of competition

I agree and disagree with that Xerios.

But, as I stated before, regardless of what's "right or wrong", when people say racist/sexist/personal insults or whatever they're almost ALWAYS doing it to get a reaction from somebody. Don't even acknowledge it directly to them. Report/mute/leave/whatever you need to do so you can enjoy your game but by throwing insults back at them or even responding you're going to just make it worse.

The two wrongs don't make a right thing you were talking about. I agree that throwing insults back at a person doesn't help, but sometimes people need to be called out on what they say. Online gaming/chat isn't really a good place to do this because there's no accountability, that's why I said it's better to just ignore it. But in general, if someone is saying those kinds of things someone should do something about it.
That's all I'm saying

I muted my entire team once.. and ive left a few games because of it.. sadly its bad sportasman ship... and on some games there is no clear indicator who is speaking so you just go and mute your entire team..

I wronte off a exagerated exageration sadly I personally thought it was too extreme thus I removed it

Have a nice day Pelican170 I expect a whipping statement destroying my own personal beliefs and sense of sanity so no disapointing right ...

Lol I HATE that. This one kid was doing it once and there was an older guy playing with him as well. The guy was just yelling at the kid and the kid was laughing hysterically. I actually started laughing too. Not sure why he decided to yell for a whole match instead of just muting him. I was enjoying just listening to the bickering.

Accept swearing and racist remarks as an inevitability in games and all will be ok

Why should we accept racism as acceptable online when it is not acceptable IRL...

Yeah... If everybody thinks that way. It would take a lot of though and understanding, but change is something we all deserve.

And as for the standing idea that we can just mute the people, what the basic reply is that we shouldn't have to mute it, and that we shouldn't have to hear all this from the immature people that spew it.

I totally thought this thread was locked yesterday

I don't think he means it's "acceptable". I think he means people should accept that it's not going to change.

Unless our country turns to a dictatorship and everything becomes censored, online chat/videogames will always be an outlet where people can act any way they want with little or no repercussions.

Us, as victims of these remarks, can do very little. We can ignore them, mute them, report them, leave, etc, but trying to convince someone to stop is a total waste of time and will likely result in an even worse situation.

What Xerios means is that because we can't stop people from doing it, we need to do what we can to minimize the impact it has on us (us being anyone around/impacted by the behaviour).

Just like the guy who yells at the kid for putting his headset against a radio was useless, trying to convince someone not to use vulgar language etc is just as useless. Mute them and move on.
