Overblown and exagerrated.

Just something new for the media to run with for weeks to come.

Yes there have been deaths and some people in the US and Canada getting sick but the scale of this and the severity of those affected is tiny compared to the coverage.

Interesting attitudes. Just be careful people. Brushing this off is a big mistake, in my opinion. Keep in mind that the media is going to be at least a couple of days behind the spread, and you should be taking anything the media or the government says with a good dose of common sense anyways. Question everything, within reason, and stay sharp.

I find it very telling that your only contribution to this forum at all has been a series of fear mongering posts about this. I know to take you with a grain of salt, believe that.

Time to buy stock in the companies developing a cure? Oddly I thought of that while watching X-Men 3 last night.

This can be good teamwork
Don't you know your end of the world scenarios? During the aftermath of a global killer of any kind, even the ugly chicks want a man with balls enough to 'kill it and drag it home'. They don't want the pacifists who sit around and talk about their 'feelings' while writing poetry about the naked husks of corn in some war-torn field that once was filled with fluttering sparrows singing their lilting tune of a warm soft spring.

Guys lacking the ability to man up to the horror of a post-apocolyptic future will be the equivalent of unichs to those men who have what it takes .

Here are reasons you should be concerned:
I'm going to stay off the panic bandwagon this go round. Our healthcare system may be currently broken, but it's 1000 times better than what it was in 1918.

Personally, I think this is a convenient diversion, but I'm not going to go the conspiracy route either. Bird Flu, mad-cow disease, global warming...we're always a hairs breadth from being hit with some pandemic that the media gets wood over, and the government gets all proud and excited that they are the only ones who can solve and stop the impending doom.

This is more panic, more fear, more uncertainty, and more doubt that gets the people to turn their doe-eyed faces up towards the government and ask for help between two quiverring lips.

I predict lots of fear, lots of panic, lots of braying as from sheep, and lots of nothing much coming from it. Then, we'll do it again when the next something becomes the next big thing.

Sheesh, I tell them to do it now. That and washing your hands after using the toilet. Nothing worse than sitting there during your morning constitutional, and the guy in stall #3 -- who burns your nostrils and hurts the ears from his morning activity -- gets up, flushes, and heads promptly out the door without giving the sink the chance to do its job.

Yeah...that's why people end up sick.

we are not a third world country....plain and simple. It won't be an epidemic here. Mexico, it could be.

Amusing, but pandemics don't care what your social class is. Not being a third-world country isn't relevant. Again, it's good to recognize fear mongering in the media, because it means you're thinking. Again, I'm not trying to get anyone all fired up here, but do be aware and careful people. I work in a laboratory, and all I'm saying is that this is showing some alarming patterns.
Let's hope it dies off before getting worse.

I think it's somewhat naive to brush this off.

I'm not going to change any travel plans and start wearing a mask, but I will continue to follow the progress as it's reported.

And I gaurentee everyone here who's acting like it's being overblown is still keeping an eye on this either consciously, or unconsciously. If it gets into a senior citizen home and results in deaths or some situation like that, you're compfort level is going to change pretty quick.

They basically just say, if you're going to go..... bring the medicine with you (since it's impossible to get there)

I wouldn't "Not-Go" plus, if you're staying in a resort area.... just wash your hands, and stay in the nice areas (places that actually clean the floors etc )

Being a third world country is relevant. Third world countries are almost always hit harder by communicable diseases. You have people living on top of each other in sometimes unsanitary conditions. Add to that poor diet and little to no healthcare and they absolutely are in a worse situation than most of the affluent countries.
