Default The Official Monitor Audio Speakers Thread

So, I am a new proud owner and thought I would start a thread to discuss these great speakers. I know there are only a few of us here, but this is the place to discuss all things Monitor Audio.

I can't say enough good things about these speakers. The big and silky smooth sound to come out of such a small and sexy package is unreal!

I own the RS6s in the rosenut finish and just picked up the matching RSLCR and RS1s.

These have become my new favorite speakers to recommend, especially the Bronze line bookshelves for entry level. Great thread, Jason, you guys are unique here!

Heck, even the RS1 @ $550 for the pair is a steal....

A little pricing info for interested buyers.

Quote:
Price vs. RETAIL

Gold Series
Provide the following speakers.

• GS10 book shelf speakers. Pair. $1,259.00 $1,600.00
• GSLCR Left, right or center channel speaker. Each $ 920.00 $1,100.00
• GSFX surrounds. Pair. $1,159.00 $1,600.00

Silver Series
Provide the following speakers.
• RS8 floor standing tower speaker. Pair. $1,450.00 $1,650.00
• RS6 floor standing tower speaker. Pair. $1,000.00 $1,100.00
• RS1 book shelf speaker. Pair. $ 550.00 $ 650.00
• RSLCR Left, right, or center channel speaker. Each. $ 525.00 $ 650.00
• RSFX surrounds. Pair. $ 600.00 $ 700.00

I got this in an email quote from a local dealer. I ended up going somewhere else to get them and paid a tad more, but I got them that day and got to do an A/B with the Paradigm Monitor 9s.

Default Upgraded from KEF to MA

My first post as I just upgraded my KEF IQ's to MA RS6, RS LCR, and awaiting the RS FX's.

My first impression is how much more detailed the ma's are!! KEF were good, but too laid back for my HT tastes. The ma's, along with my Hsu sub, are incredible mathced with my marantz sr6003. Raindrops and glass breaking never sounded like this on my old system. The ma's are certainly much "brighter" than my KEF's, but not fatiguing at all. Although if they were matched with a much brighter amp, I could see how they could become a little too sharp for some people.

They are an upgrade for music as well. Much more clarity between instruments, especially in the treble range. Great vocals too.

I'll repost after I get my fx's set up and running.

Cheers

Hi and welcome! Those are some great speakers you got! I was actually thinking of jumping ship a little while back from the RS6 to KEF's IQ series but changed my mind. I really like how the RS6's sound so I didn't see the need to change.

What are you using to drive the MA's?

Hi! I'm using a Marantz SR6003 to drive them. Plenty of power for me, even though my room is accoustically challenged-open on 2 sides and high ceilings.

I'm a real novice when it comes to understanding amp power.

Would using the pre-outs on the 6003 to a dedicated amp give me a much better sound?

I do think that the KEF's would have benefited from a brighter sounding amp, maybe a Pioneer or Yamaha.

your marantz is 6 ohm rated so driving your speakers with it should be good, however a power amp will provide cleaner power, and will introduce less distortion at higher volumes when pushed harder. Do you have to have a power amp, NO, are they helpful in getting you better and cleaner and more power, YES.

first time i have heard a Yamaha classified as bright. However I did hear a pair of XQ40s on a Pioneer Elite and I thought they had more detial then a lot of speakers I have hear.... at that time. Of course the XQs are much more expensive then the RSs.

Thanks. That's great info for me. If I was to think of impedence rating in the simplest terms, would it be correct to say that 8 ohm speakers would make a 4 or 6 ohm amp work too hard, while 4 ohm speakers would could potentially be over-powered by an 8 ohm amp?

If you have any suggestions for an inexpensive multi-channel power amp that could improve my speaker performance, I'd appreciate the info!!

Thanks

Anybody have feedback on the GX50s v GX100s? They'd be serving 2.0/3.0 while I save for some 200s or 300s - atwater that's my current thinking.

I have a pair of speakers that were given to me they are floor standing speakers with 3402 on a tag on the back. Any idea what series this is? Or do I need some pics to make identification easier? The reason I ask this is I am looking to get a complimentary center channel and eventually the surrounds. Thanks in advance for any insight.

I have the rx8 silvers. Love them. Will that new 12" sub work well with my (older by a year or so) speaker setup?

Also did he say self powered 500 watts?
