I don't know that you would consider it a 'credit sequence' but my favorite opening scene is LOTR: Fellowship of the Rings.

That was great it set the tone for the whole series.
I also love the opening to Raiders of the Lost Ark, simple and doesnt last too long, you get right to the whip snapping fun

None of the Lord of the Rings films have an "opening titles sequence". They have the obligatory sudio/production company identification cards, and then the title of the film. That's not an opening titles sequence.

I saw Andrew Davis' The Fugitive the other day for the first time in about 10 years, and I was reminded how much I admired the opening credits...they play from the first establishing shot all the way to Kimble heading off to prison on the bus. They cram so much exposition into the opening credits - it really should be studied by screenwriting and editing students. The economy of those first few minutes is incredible.

The simple fact that LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring has no "Opening Credits" disqualifies it from consideration and therefore renders your post moot.

I actually did and it drove me f****ing nuts waiting for the rest of the movie to begin and annoying the hell out of me.
It was an eternity sitting there the first time seeing it. However it has now become one of my favorite opening credits.
