I'll keep this short, as I don't want to continue with further derailment of this thread and also risk getting more posted deleted. I understand where you are coming from, but I have to admit your posts initially rubbed me the wrong way. I have nothing against comic books. I used to read comics years ago, but I wasn't deep into it. I think it's safe to say that assumptions were made on both sides without really seeing the other's point of view. To each their own, as they say. It's possible to enjoy a comic book movie without ever reading the comic book. But there is something to be said for seeing your favorite comic book hero hit the big screen and to have knowledge of their backstory prior to the movie coming out. Hopefully there are no hard feelings and I apologize for my remarks.

Now…back on topic….

[Show spoiler]Actress? Doesn't he usually talk to a statue?
(Which he seemed to be doing in The Avengers.)

I appreciate the civility of your post. On a similar note, to anyone excited for the movie who isn't usually into comics, I would strongly recommend reading the newer Bendis series of Guardians of the Galaxy. It is only on issue 7 or so and it is much easier to get into than any of Marvel's other canon ridden space stuff. Anyways

Cynical much? So what if people do?

I have never really been a huge Guardians fan, by any strech of the imigination. I have, however, read some of the comics and found some of their stories somewhat interesting. Since Marvel began funding and producing this movie I have personally had a growing exceitment for this and am just bursting at the seams waiting for its release. I likewise think it would be great for people to get excited about GotG and who gives a f**k if they pretend to have been "super fans" all along?

That's not me. I'm just a big fan of the Marvel movies and James Gunn.

Thor, Captain America and Iron Man were all lousy comic books, especially in the 90's when I was a youngster. Turns out however that I loved the films! Marvel totally classed up the characters from B-grade to first class with those films.

For me this is a different Guardians than I grew up with. Mine was Vance Astro's team, I think they popped up in The Avengers comic in the late 70's, early 80's. While I haven't read any of the current team, I am familiar with them and like what they've done with some of the heroes of past series. Especially Starlord and Bug. Micronaughts was one of my favorite series. So I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with the movie.

I apologize for being pedantic but isn't the phrase "bursting at the seams"?

He's talking about movies, so "Scenes" fits this time

Your pedanticism is appreciated. You're right, I meant "seams." I have no idea why I wrote "scenes."

Sorry but I have to disagree. While Mark Waid's run on Cap was the only avengers family book I read before the shitfest that was "Heroes Reborn", when the Heroes Returned, Waid was back on Cap, Kurt Busiek and George Perez were on Avengers with Busiek also on IronMan. Those were/are some of the best comics produced. While some didn't like longtime XMen creator Chris Claremont's take on Fantastic Four, most of those stories were still a lot better than anything after John Byrne's run almost ten years earlier.

Marvel had really started to turn a corner with these characters in terms of it's own respect of them. Just look at some of the past creative teams on these books pre 1995...some were very respected, but most are a veritable who's who of third or fourth tier creators that just recycled previous ideas almost regularly. Plus the fact that even just before the Quesada regime of the 2000's, previous editors meddled to much, and often thought they were better than the writers hired.

Just look at the dispute that had longtime Xmen creator Chris Claremont leave the book. The editor, who was one of many on the book during Claremont's run thought his own direction for the books were more important than what the writer had. Also a lot of people forget that during that same editors run as editor in chief, frequently hired and fired popular creators on and off many books. Writer Peter David, who singlehandedly saved the Hulk from cancellation in the Eighties...was fired and rehired on that same book at least three times during his twelve year run. He later left the book due to differences with his editor.

That same Editor who then went on to be Editor in chief at Marvel was fired in 1999. Now he is Editor in chief of DC, and still is hiring and firing people on a regular basis, some even fired or taken off the book before their first issue is released. Tricky Dick...

Find it weird how these movies don't spark your interest in comics if you love the films.

It's the same as loving movies based on novels and having no desire to read the book.
